Black Rifle Storage

Just curious how everyone stores their AR's or other black rifle styles?

Just doesn't fit the same in the safe muzzle up and leaned into the corner - based on the height of my hunting bolt actions, the AR just doesn't seem happy stored that way........ does anyone else have preferences on how you store yours?

Horizontal - wall mounted, or vertical, muzzle up, vertical muzzle down, by the sling, etc, etc..... Right now they stay in the range bags as much as the safe...

Mine reside in the gun safe. I have standoff barrel supports for scoped rifles which seem to stand the ARs nicely. I will admit the M4 style look a 'little' diminutive next to the old Mausers and the Mosin. The long barrel ARs look right at home.

Never store barrel up! Had a gunsmith show me how much business it generated for him because, over the years, oil would migrate into the action and cause sticky triggers and sears.
Well i ignored this advice at first but then I had it happen to me with a rem 700 7mm mag.
I pulled the trigger on a deer and nothing happened so I lowered the gun to work the bolt but it went off before i could touch the bolt. missed the deer which jumped a couple yards down the trail looking around. I worked the bolt slowely and held on the chest until the gun went off about 3 seconds after pulling the trigger the second time. Got him! but as he was in his death run I worked the bolt real fast and it went off on its own. The trigger/sear was dragging in the build up. The trigger sear mechanism is not made to come appart so how would one check to see if theres build up in there?

Anyway after a long story the word from the smith is to store your rifles barrel down to prevent oil migration over time.

Here let me help...............

First - Take all those bolts guns out of the safe.
Second - Place them on an old blanket and roll them up into a bundle.
Third - Drag bundle o' guns into bedroom & push them under the bed.

Now go back to your safe and admire how nice all those black rifles look, problem solved!

Don't forget to sprinkle the pretty Walnut stocked Semi-auto rifles, we had before we came over to the darkside, amongst the Black rifles so you can feel virtuous about maintaining the Balance in your collection. :lol:

use slip 2000 to lubricate your rifles and don't worry.it does not "gum" up over time. this is good stuff,it costs a good bit more than every day gun oil but you get what you pay for.oh yea and it does not stink its non toxic
