Black Rain Ordnance Generation III Gun Championship September 5-7th, 2014

Jeff Welsh, Chad Francis and I have started a not for profit organization called Generation III Gun. The purpose of the organization is to raise money for junior shooters to help offset costs for 3 gun matches. We will be holding a 3 day 3 Gun Championship event at the same location that the now defunct Ozark 3 Gun Championship has been held at for the past 3 years.

We wanted to get the word out about the match and the organization so that you could reserve a spot for our match on your 2014 match schedule. We will have a website set up with match registration info very soon.

One of the coolest things about this match is that Juniors will shoot for free!!!

Black Rain Ordnance has stepped up to be the title sponsor with a very generous prize donation for the prize table.

The plan is to have a 9-10 stage match on September 5-7th, 2014 using the popular half day shooting format.

We hope to see everyone out there!

Just checked next year's rotation here at work. "Fat Roll Tactical" is off and will be shooting this one! I hope to get my Black Rain rifle cerakoted like a huge Cheeto by then.

if 3g matches lost their prize table, then the entry fees would be low enough to allow juniors to shoot 3g 3g competitors to also bring their sons or daughters who shoot 3gun.

How do you figure? People run matches to make a profit or in our case money to give to junior shooters. Companies donate prizes in return for advertising. If matches didn't ask anyone to donate prizes then the match would just cost a bunch of money with no return to the shooter for their dollar.

the prize table is what brings many shooters to the game. also word of mouth about the prizes on the table bring in new shooters and give them the chance to upgrade. and the more shooters the more money an event can bring in. look at the zombie shoot in nebraska it started with 150 shooters and now it is bringing more than 300. i think what jesse and his crew are doing is a great thing for our younger shooters whos parents can not afford to pay for all the never ending equipment and entry fees. i hope this program is still around when my kids are old enuff to shoot the matches. also think about the companies that donate prizes, as a shooter i would rather buy my stuff from them to thank them for their support than a place that never seems to donate to any cause, thanks jesse and you crew for putting this together for our youth.

Is not the match itself a return for their dollar?
If it were the major part of their 3G dollars, then I wouldnt be hearing in private how terrible some matches were, while the same guy yuks it up on facebook on how awsome the match was. what is it more of, shooting or free elephant dung?
If a parent cant afford to deck their kid out for three gun, my heart goes out to them, but Ill be the first guy to lend them a glock or .22 so they can shoot ipsc or steel challenge, at a magnitude lesser of a dollar. Wounded Warrior, Operation Homefront, Semper Fi Fund, thats the type of benefit match I want to go to.

I dont mean to take away from your worthwhile endeavor, but it does bring up some food for thought. so carry on

For me yes, the match is a fine return for my dollar but lets face it a little extra bonus always helps. If matches suck people need to stand up and say they suck! It sounds like you have more of a problem with some match directors rather than a prize table. From what I understand about sponsorships, they usually sponsor events by donating prizes for the prize table. I agree some matches are just absolutely ridiculous in price. My philosophy, on issues like this, is instead of presenting an understood a problem, present a solution to said problem. In this case Jesse, Jeff and Chad are taking a step to help younger shooters be involved in a way that will reach more than just the one shooter someone might lend a firearm too. While I am all for benefit matches for our soldiers and veterans I also am very happy to see a benefit match for younger shooters as well as continuing benefit matches for veterans and soldiers. The younger shooters are the future after all. I am glad other people think some prices of these matches are outrageous as well.

That being said I will be at this match with our OSU team next year.

I did a little research on the quantity of junior shooters at major matches. The average number in attendance at this years majors is about 7-8. We hope our free entry drives that number to 20 at this match. Plus the money we raise should be able to pay for the $150-175 entry fees for juniors at another 50-60 or more matches throughout the year.

What is the avearge age of junior shooters? I think this is great for the sport.

The youngest I've seen in 3 gun is about 14. Most I can think of off the top of my head are around 16 right now.

i think this program is great as long as the money gets spread out to all youth 3 gun shooters and not to just a few. i enjoy seeing the youth get into this game, im not dogging on steel challange or any other game or shooting ability i love shooting all of them but in 3 gun a person has to be good with 3 tools insted of just one and why not teach our youth about this and the responsibility of pistol, rifle and shotgun, while helping them with the cost of the event. lets all face it these kids now will be our future. i agree the match prices are getting higher and higher witch is keeping alot of good shooters and hidden talent from being discovered. also the distance people have to travel for these is crazy. now add up the amount of ammo a person needs, the cost in gas it takes to get there, hotel room for two of three nights, meals the list can go on and on. does the program only cover entry fee? what is the entry fee going to be for the match next september?

It will be spread around. Two of the GIIIG creators have junior shooter children but due to the non profit structure their children aren't eligible to be helped by the organization.

We haven't worked out a structure on distributing funds yet because we don't have any.

It's pretty fun to think about helping some kids with Match fees, travel, ammo, etc!

I think that what Jesse, Chad, and Jeff are doing is great. I got back from Rocastle after midnight last night and worked 12 hrs on my day "off" today...needless to say, anything that could help make 3 gun cheaper for juniors would be much appreciated.

As for my family, we all started shooting 3 gun last year when my sons were 12 and 14 (the 9 year old is still a bit too young). Since we share much of our equipment, the greatest costs are entry fees and ammo. Programs like this could go a long way towards getting more kids into these matches. Maybe we can also get all the major matches to offer discounted entry fees for juniors...most of them already do, but there are still a few that don't.

As Jesse stated, Generation III Gun, Inc. is a not for profit private foundation set up solely for funding junior shooters. We chose for the 501c3 application to specifically prohibit Jesse, Chad or myself, our children or any relatives, including any affiliate entity of any kind from receiving benefit from the company.
Initially our mission will be to pay match fees for juniors. Beyond that, we will explore additional avenues to assist juniors as they become available.
In keeping with our mission, juniors will shoot the Generation III Gun match in September for free.
If you have additional questions, message us on Facebook or contact us directly here or on Enos.
