Billet or forged? Need a rifle

I can't say whether the JP is better or not, but I've been running a stock buffer with weights removed for at least 2 years now in my 3 gun rifle.
Did you put anything back in it? The empty buffer weighs next to nothing.

Only thing that scares me about building the whole upper is I have no idea how.

Seems I can't find a good barrel thats not a million dollars. I don't know how to head space it. I don't have any gunsmith tools for a AR. I also don't know if there's anything weird about lining up a gas block.

If I can figure it out I'm not opposed to trying to build the upper.

What do you think a 18" upper build will cost ballpark with a long hand guard?
I'd buy one. Or have somebody that knows what they are doing build it for you. You'll need to buy A vice block and barrel nut wrench. If you plan to build more its worth the investment and time to learn how to DIY.

Anyone used the stag barell 18" fluted for $200?
I've shot them a bunch. It's an Moa barrel with the right ammo. It's not as accurate as my JP barrels but it gets the job done. It's pretty heavy even with the fluting. I run a PRS stock to balance the gun. The extra heft stops the sights from moving at all.

Before I switched to the JP silent captured spring, I used a rifle buffer with 1 weight in it. I made a spacer out of delrin to fill the rest of the space. It weighed 2.95oz. The JP low mass buffer weighs 3ozs. Ran in my rifle great for 2 years. I know a few guys who run the empty rifle buffer with low mass systems and adjustable gas blocks (gas guns). If I remember correctly the empty buffer was 2.4oz. I experimented with the empty buffer, but with my gas piston rifle with low mass carrier and Adams Arms XLP adjustable gas block, it worked better with the single weight. Gas guns can be tuned down more.

That's it nothing in place of it? So basically you just made your own version of it.

But by doing that. Is it's best to run a adjustable gas block and low mass bcg to get the most benefit. I mean just by removing weights the stock bcg and non adjustable gas block. there wouldn't be much benefit would there?
To save some cash you could go with the Nordic 18" barrel and since it has smaller gas ports you can use a nonadjustable gas block with a low mass bcg. I run a buffer with the weights taken out of it. The hardest part is knocking out that damn pin to take the cap off

Does the Nordic barrel have a smaller gas port? I thought just the carbon arms barrel that Nordic makes special for them has the smaller port???

From my understanding it was all of them. I sent Nordic a email a while back asking if their 16" had the smaller port and they said no only the 18". But I'm usually wrong a lot.....

Has anybody seen any ultra cheap lowers recently? I need a couple to put spare parts kits into. I'm talking $30-60 lowers. Blems Are ok.

Nordic barrels have .096 gas ports in rifle length & .086 in mid length.

If I do a jp upper. Should I go with Light or medium contour? Any advantage with one over the other. What about the heat fin thermal thing... Worth 75 or no?

That JP light contour is about as light weight as they get for an 18". I have two of them. They are shooters! The profile at the comp is .750 so it blends well with other comps. The medium look best with the JP comp. The fins are more for show then anything. I'd go without.

If I choose light, you would still recommend a different comp or go with jp comp?

Is the medium alot more weight? I was planning the jp comp.... I'm sure they both shoot better then me. Lol

I did do a black rain lower. So now I'm debating if I should do the billet upper or save the money and get forged.

I appreciate all the input on this guy's. Hopefully in two weeks I can order it. I'm sure it won't shoot 55's so all my ammo I had is probably junk... Hahaha
