Best Trigger Pull Scale

I'm thinking of picking one up, only that I have nothing else to do. What's a good one that you smiths would suggest?

I have that one.....no idea how it rates compared to other models. It seems a bit more repeatable than my old trigger scale, er, uh, fish scale.

I have the older version. Seems pretty good. Its repeatable at least.

The Lyman guage works well. But I'm just a home garage hobby hack.

Out of curiosity, for those of you who have something other than weights, how do you know what you have is accurate? If it was wrong, and it was the only one you had, how would you know it was wrong?

The reason I bought the set I bought was simply that I wanted to know the truth, as defined by the NRA weight set.

It's just not that important that I have a trigger scale that is accurate to the nth degree. The manypufactipurer says it's accurate. How do you know your weight set is accurate? Because the NRA has endorsed it?

Digital scales, just like weights can be checked for accuracy.

Let me don my flame suit before saying this. I have been happy with my Wheeler spring trigger gauge. It seems to give me fairly consistent readings year in and year out. Is it the best? I am sure it is not, but it works for me. I'm never taking triggers much below 4 lbs (plus I can't really distinguish between a half pound or so in trigger pull to my trigger finger) so I don't think it has me wandering into unsafe adjustments to my triggers.

Does anyone ever check the calibration of these?

Good question. I don't have the means right now. I just know that the Lyman is consistent. The wheeler I tried went right back to sportsman's. Was all over. Maybe my guns just suck.

I have a friend who is a very gun savvy competitive shooter who had trouble with the calibration on his Lyman. The Wheeler mechanical spring gauge I have really does give me repeatable readings to about a quarter pound and I've had it maybe four years. I use it a fair amount and it doesn't seem to change from one year to the next. My 5lb Colt will still be a 5lb Colt the next year.

The readings might change a quarter pound from one pull to the next but I've seen this with electronic gauges as well when I've been a gun shop observing a smith.
