Well, What does the tribe have to say about this?

Well here goes. I shoot 230gr whatever in my 45's. (With the occassional 185gr Silvertip in my l/w Commanders) I shoot mostly ball ammo. It feeds well and seems to have some nasty effect on the backer boards at the range. I have no problem carrying ball ffor S/D. With me the old adage "I do not want to get shot with anything" definitely holds true. I've aquired a nice share of 45acp ammo thru the yrears, so I'm set whitchever way. Self defense/home defense? Shotgun full of buckshot, whichever handgun is handy, and if I want to totally lose what is left of my hearing an AR.

Bob,
Please don't get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with the 45acp, but I am in the 10mm camp. I don't care if it is in a 1911 or a G20, G29 or any of the other manufactures not mentioned. Have you ever tried the 10mm?

No sir I hever have tried 10mm.

I recently found myself bringing a G20 into my safe, and after several mod's, and ammo tries, I have to say I'm impressed. I doubt I'll ever come face to face with a Grisly, but if I do, he should probably just lay down and surrender. With hard cast, or HP's, that stuff is just mean. It's mostly a house gun, but at my age, I won't need to bother with opening the door first.

I just posted about a new 45acp load I tried..using a 118gr. ARX copper composite bullet.
a started charge of Shooter's World Ultimate Pistol powder (7.0gr) produces a velocity of 1163 fps ... max charge is 7.4gr =1207 fps
with Win. AutoComp a start charge is 7.2 gr.= 1131 & max. charge of 8.5gr = 1285 fps.

tried shooting 50 rds of these pills , came home & ordered more of these bullets. :)

Was that the "inceptor" bullet? I see they sell that version in box's of 20. i have some like that in 10mm and 9mm also. Good stuff. I do really like that lauck round with the "collar" just at the case, it does a great job of making a hole. Unfortunately, my hands have become a little too shaky for reloading.

Love it!

I have (so far, if I counted correctly):

(2) 50 round boxes of 230gr FMJ from Georgia Arms (gun show ammo)
(2) 50 round boxes of 230gr FMJ Winchester White Box (Cabela's)
(1) 50 round box of 230gr FMJ Federal American Eagle (Cabela's)
(1) 7 round mag of 185gr JHP Remington Golden Saber (Town Police Supply)
(1) 7 round mag (spare) of 185gr JHP Rem... same as above....
*rest of the 20 round box, previously fired and used up, testing at the range*
(1) 20 round box of 230gr JHP Speer Gold Dot (Town Police Supply)
(2) 50 round boxes of CCI Blazer Brass FMJ (birthday gift from my son-in-law).
-----------------------
384 total rounds, if my math is correct. I need more ammo!

You sure do! That's could be shot up on a good range day. A case here, a case there, it'll add up pretty quick.

I bought a couple hundred .45ACP cartridges from Georgia Arms several years ago at the Wannamaker Gun Show in Tulsa Ok.
180 grain HP that ran 1150 across the chronograph.
Took two does with them in succeeding years with the Kimber stainless Target II, with a bobcat in the following year as it walked under my stand.
There are a hundred left in the ammo bunker. (file cabinet used for ammo storage)

In .45, it depends on which pistol I'm shooting, but overall, Federal American Eagle 230 ball shoots well, followed by S&B and PMC. S&B 230JHP is danged near match-grade stuff in my LW Commanders.

WWB and anything else brings up last place, period. Dirty stuff, in my book.

Actually, I liked my own handloads best, 200gr. SWCs on top of Unique, 231, or AA#2, somewhat less recoil and cuts bigger holes in the targets. I usually ran them a fuzz over 900fps when I was shooting IPSC/USPSA 30 years ago. I don't know how much of that stuff I shot, but I actually cracked a Colt frame using it over 20+ years. I shot a LOT way back then.
