Any suggestions, Im about to buy myself my first 1911, I like the Hogue MaGrips and Skinzgrips makes a set I like fairly well. But I dont know that much about grips for 1911 and it seems there are about 100 gagillion choices... I prefer a slimmer grip with fairly aggressive checkering and I like the hogue because it incorporates a magwell/funnel without having to have another part on the gun. and its not really going to be a competition gun so keep that in mind, Its not a 2011 and I dont want the tricked USPSA look.

I'm of the opinion that if you're cool enough to own a 1911, then you should go all the way and get custom grips. Either laser engraved or painted.

^^^ The only time I'd break my "no skulls" rule. :)

I like my Simonich Gunner grips, wouldn't change them for anything. They're the full width model but not too wide, at least for me.
VZ has many great options......gunners, operators, aliens, tactical diamonds are all great choices

Mine are standard thickness, not slim, but they do have pretty aggressive checkering, and they're very reasonably priced. I'd like to get some of the G10/Micarta type grips like the VZ or Simonich grips, but for now these do well enough.

Cylinder & Slide Curve Checkered $36.99

Those are nice grips too.

Brent, that 1911 is badass. If/when you head to okc or I head to tulsa for a match, I'm requesting trigger time with it.

Techwell get my vote.....

Or get some cheap plastic GIs and have someone stipple em for you.

I use plain old Houges on my carry Colt. They are thin... grippy enough and cheap enough to replace. I carry IWB and usually dont wear undershirts... Vz grips, aggressive grips in general, are raspy on the love handles... and the outside stock looks like a refugee from a scratch and dent sale after six months. The rubber Houges get beat up... but you cant see it and they still work.

What is tits on a comp or range gun may not be comfortable on a daily basis.

I had the rubber houges on my pistol for a few years & was advised by one of my favorite gun smiths to never use them again.
They don't breath & moisture will collect & the gun will rust underneath them.
It was almost impossible for him to get the grip screw bushings out to replace them.

Mike beat me to it. Every time you put dumb grips on your pistol, God kills a kitten.

Looks like I need to sell the house and order about 50,000 Winnie the Pooh 1911 grips.

Dead kittens aside, I like VZ grips, and two-piece rubber grips. The set of stock rubber grips on the S&W 1911 I had were great, and fairly thin.

Maybe his experience is with people who don't pull grips and clean their carry guns very often. Some folks have funky sweat that takes blue off gun and pits metal in mere days of exposure.

The Colt I carry has been in constant use since the 2003... the grip screws are bright... but nary a speckle of rust... matter of fact... this gun has the nice patina, white edges and generaly mellowing of finish that comes when a firearm live a life of daily carry.

Man, way to crush a guys dreams about having cool grips on a 1911. hehe :)

You guys seem to have the same opinion about them that I do about people putting camp print on their guns. :roulette:

I do not work on any guns with cartoons on them. Real pistols are big boy tools, not the male equivalent of a barbie doll.

Please don't gay it up with cartoon grips.

Quotable moments, for sure.

I like several of the VZ's and have had them on guns that I shoot a lot.

VZ Aliens are a little thick and will make you bleed. Here is a review I did on them

VZ Operators, Tactical Diamonds are thin and just the right amount of "grippy"

These are the Operators. Tactical Diamonds are the same except they are checkered all over like the front have of the Operators

You got it. Let me know if you get up this way. I'll do the same if I'm headed your direction.

I found the same thing to be true. So I just sacrificed and wear undershirts whenever possible.

That's me. I would have dearly loved to get my 1911 done in a super glossy blue, but I couldn't have every carried it in the summer. Or shot it in the summer. Or touched it in the summer. Or be in the same room... ok, well, maybe not that bad.

seems like someone didnt get their GI Joes when they were a kid, sounds like a little, "11 years old, Im angry with my mother" angst there.
