Beretta PX4 Vs. M&P

Lance is right. Again.

When choosing a pistol for carry there are two places you want to look, physically, for starters: What are comp guys shooting, and what pistol is in police holsters.

Both are dominated by Glock, with M&P coming up really fast. When I'm teaching at CLEET the first thing I do is walk up and down the line and see what everyone is carrying. I can't remember the last time I saw a Beretta in a cop holster, but I'd guess it's been a few years. It's Glock, M&P, and XD (in that order). There is a large gap between those 3 and SigSauer (some state agencies issue these) and various 1911s (Kimbers and Springfields). Other than those 5, there really isnt alot out there in CopLand.

10 years ago, you wouldn't find much other than Glock and Sig.

Man! You guys are awesome! I figured the M&P would win the debate but I didn't think it wouldn't be this large of a landslide! I have a(1)friend who has the PX4 and he really likes it, but like I said, I never really hear anything about them. Like someone said here - "there must be a reason!"

Thanks again for the feedback!

Another thing to think about.... That one friend, who we both know, may have shot the storm 3 times, for a total of probably 300 rounds. I would be shocked if it was over 500, and not surprised if it was less than 200. I have yet to see a Storm with with a high round count, and while I am sure there are some, I have seen plenty of Glocks with over 100k rounds, and with the popularity of M&Ps I am certain there are some with equaly high numbers.

You have to separate the advice you get based on the shooter who is giving it.

I have shot the M&P 9 and Px4 9, in both full size and compact. The Px4 felt very clunky, with a high bore axis. It reminded me of an XD, only not so sleek. The Px4 I shot did have manual controls, which added to the bulk. The Px4 did shoot well. However, I chose the M&P.
