So I broke out the M9 I bought a little while back for the first time today. Was not impressed at all. It never cycled properly (with all Beretta M9 mags or the one 92FS LEO mag).

This is RobC's old project gun (its changed hands a few times since he owned it), and I truly believe that it worked properly at one point, but something is definitely wrong with it now. Its an older Beretta M9 commercial frame with a GI (cage-coded, Assy numbered) slide/barrel/trigger/hammer/etc... Everything on it is GI with the exception of the frame (and its got the plastic guide rod in it now, but I've got the GI steel guide rod in the safe here).

Here's my issue - at first it was slow to cycle back into battery (but chambered the next round). Then it stopped chambering the next round - almost as if the slide wasn't going to the rear all the way. I was just testing it out and didn't have any gun oil with me, so I attributed it to lack of proper lube (and I was mostly there to test out the new thread-adapter/qd connector for my AAC SCAR-H SD can on my AR - works very much like its supposed to so the day wasn't a total loss).

Anywho, the beretta testing was done with WWB 9mm ammo and then I tried Blazer Brass ammo as well. Both did the same thing. After a bit, the slide felt as if it were really dragging against the frame so I stopped shooting it but started playing with it a little to see what was causing it.

When I cycle the slide normally (without pulling the trigger), it cycles just fine - back into battery with no issue. When I pulled the trigger (as if I had just fired it) and kept it depressed while cycling the slide - suddenly, the slide felt as if something was dragging against it.

Got it home and lubed it up properly, and its still doing it some (is this a normal problem or do I have something going on here that shouldn't be?).

I pulled the slide off and then pulled the trigger (not letting the hammer snap down) and noticed that the rear of the trigger bar (when the trigger is fully depressed) sticks up a little and I can manually (with almost no force) push down towards the bottom of the gun and it "clicks" into what feels/sounds like the place its supposed to be.

I lubed it up everywhere I could see that it might need it, and cycled all the moving parts a bit and no change. Also, when the trigger is pulled to the rear and the slide cycles (and drags), the trigger is held back in to the rear on its own and then when it releases, the slide immediately becomes loose and drops.

I've not disassembled the frame yet, but I'd really like some input from a Beretta expert before going much further (in case I'm dealing with a bad part or improper assembly or something).

One thing that I just remembered is that I've currently got Aluma-grips on the gun - I'm wondering if the grips are up against the trigger-bar.

Looks like the Aluma-Grips were causing the issue. These things were pretty darn expensive to not fit right. I can file some off of the inside of the grip, but I'm thinking of returning them.

Isn't it nice when a big problem ends up being something simple?

Yeah, but it sucks when they were caused by the shooter buying fancy after-market crap for the gun :)

Filed down just a few thousandths on the bottom of the channel on the inside of the right grip (the channel was designed to let the trigger-bar move freely in it and wasn't large enough).

Gun works like a dream now.
