Barrel length vs velocity

Interesting read.
A little strange that the velocity would go up when they cut the barrel from 22.25" to 21.25"

Its because the powder has lots it ability to propel the bullet, and friction takes over that slows the bullet down.

The same with shotguns. Its interesting to put different powders in shotgun rounds and test them over a chronograph,

With some powders, a 20" barrel is faster than a 24" depending on the powder used,

Some of the old "goose guns" with incredibly long barrels actually have less range than a shorter one. Perfect example of the gun makers marketing powers.
