Barrel choice JP or Nordic

From what I've read those 2 seem to be the go to for an 18" rifle gas. There's tons more out that but they all seem to be heavier.

Thoughts suggestions?

I recently replaced the barrel on my rifle with a 20" Criterion barrel. Wylde chamber and 1 in 8 twist, easy 1 inch 10 shot groups at 100 with my mixed case blasting ammo. For the money I'm very happy.
 
I was skeptical of the Rhino Arms 1/2 MOA guarantee when I first signed up to shoot their guns this year. I used my JP barrels for accuracy heavy matches. My rhino barrel shoots tighter groups then my JP consistently using my favorite 69gr match ammo. Pretty impressive!

The Nordic barrel has the gas port sized so that you don't need an adjustable gas block.
 
I don't think you'll be disappointed with either choice.

I used to have the Satern that Robusto mentioned and switched to the JP only because it felt lighter. They'll both out shoot me any day.

Good point. I rarely shoot 5 shot groups at or below 1.5 MOA. I always get 1 flyer. A 4x or 6x scope isn't powerful enough for me to shoot as well as my barrels can.

Matched to what kind of ammo and internal parts?

it will work with full weight carriers and recoil systems on 55gr ammo all day long. Even the cheap ammo. I have never ran the wolf style crappy ammo in the barrel, so I can't say.
 
Right, I don't know what a typical competition rifle setup is in 3gun, but over here we all change for lightweight carriers and so on, and now with the recent trends of running with no buffer and, having an adjustable gas block becomes even more important.
While most of my friends shoot hand loads for matches. I'm just shooting Fiocchi 55FMJ factory, but I have the gas turned down so it barely ejects spent brass when the rifle is canted sideways :yes:

No Buffer???
 
Confused me too. I took all the weights out of my buffer, but I can't imagine it running very long without the buffer in there.
 
Well, no buffer "per se", you turn the buffer around and put it in other end of the stock and run the rifle with a small plastic spacer instead of the buffer, less reciprocating mass = less recoil impulse.

They are both manufactured by Wilson arms...

I'll take your word for it, but that's not something I'm willing to try out.
 
Me neither......at least not until a few of the other guys have experimented a bit more with it. But apparently this is what a few of the Finnish guys are doing now, and supposedly they now have less recoiling rifles than anything seen before.

I'd love to see a pic. I'm not 100% sure I'm following you.

I take it you guys are running titanium or aluminum BCG as well?
