My daughters horse died today. She is away at her first year of college. The old boy won her tons of blue ribbons at 4H shows, and took her miles and miles on trail rides. He had a heart and motor as big as any I've seen. I'm not looking forward to telling her, but at least her horse isn't suffering.
Sorry for the vent.

Man that is rough.
Maybe the thought of getting a new colt will help her through this.
One thing I always tell my love ones when they lose an animal is that the animal could have not have had a better life with anyone else.

He was her first horse, I got him for her after my wife died in 2006, to kind of refocus her. Even though he was gaited, she ran poles and barrels with him, and of course the gaited classes in 4H. Guess I'm kind of wallowing in it too. I cut a locke of mane for her to keep. I think the old boy had a good life with us. He was a grand champion in his youth, but paid the price of being sored. Here all he had to do was be a little girl's buddy, and he did it well, and helped heal a family.

Thanks for all your condolences. It is appreciated.
