This seems obvious to me now, but because I had been distracted by the 2A concerns, I had not even considered this aspect. Possibly, the concern over our 2A rights was raised to distract us from the real threat. Consider this:
If US gun owners are assured this treaty in no way would affect their 2A rights, and the Senate then ratifies it with gun owner blessings, the US would be obliged to allow other countries to veto our arms sale to a third party country. For instance, if Iran didn?t want the US selling weapons to Israel, under the treaty, it would likely only take a single veto vote to stop the sale. Once our hands are tied by this treaty, who thinks that Iran would allow the US to then support Israel with weapons? There is much more at stake here than just our 2A rights. At the risk of sounding like an alarmist, this treaty could have potential world war level implications.
