Didn't quite know where to put this.

Had the perfect day to go out and chrono loads and shoot groups. Cool temp, almost no wind. I had 6 loads ready to go with two different powders. Got the first two loads chrono'd and it went batshit crazy.

Does anybody know how good CED's customer service is? I'm gonna have to send this one back. Dammit!

My old club sent a timer back a while back. I spoke to them about something and it was all a good experience.

If it was around noon or the sun was very bright I have had to put newspaper over the diffusers to get accurate readings. Did you try a fresh battery and reset (on/off)?

Let us know I have a couple of buddies that run the CED and they swear by it and if I ever purchase a new chrony I am thinking CED.

Best.

Yes I did the full deal reset. Even took the battery out and replaced it. When it crapped out it registered a shot and another one, and another one, and over and over until it filled up the memory. All from one shot. At that point the screen's LCD lit up every thing on the screen and it was locked up. It would not reset at all with the reset button, and turning it off didn't unlock it either. When I removed the battery it did, but would never pick up another shot.

Well darn.
I was hoping the newspaper would had worked. Have you contacted them?

That's to bad. They make a lot of products and I would hate to see them go down that road. Well I really like their range bags and timers.
I don't think you read my statement correctly.
I've had no problems with their customer service

Scott, I have the CED Chrono and there were only two problems I had. Battery, as you have surmised, and not having the skyscreens correctly placed to put the pick up in the shaded area. Some times if you have a lot of unburnt powder that makes it to the screens it will cause reading errors. I use the 10 foot distance to check my handgun loads. Let us know how things workout for you. later rdd

You did replace with a new battery, right?

Edited to add a stupid question. Later once more rdd

Never had a problem with unburnt powder but could see the problem with it or dust. Seems it would keep reg until the memory was filled up if the pickups were dirty Maybe a pc of lint even. Worth taking some air to or a soft cloth and seeing if it helped.

Just now got back to this. Got this email reply back pretty quick from them.

I do not think it needs servicing. I suspect that something environmental (light most likely) caused the rapid false memory filling up. indoor flourescant lighting can do this within a few seconds. So can erratic light fluctuation, trees moving which cause the sunlight to also shift rapidly, as well as some other variables.

You need to clear the memory. Follow the instructions in your manual for clearing the memory and once you have done this, your system should be fine to work again.

Respectfully, Charles Hardy - CED

So I remembered the flashlight test and just went out and did that. It's picking that up, so I think I'll run out to the range tomorrow and try the rest of these loads. Maybe it was the bright sun, but it had been working just fine.

Roger, what do you mean about adjusting the sky screens? Mine just go into one place. I wish the side arms weren't so damn tall, I think the diffusers are too far up there for a bright day.

I have draped and taped a single sheet of newspaper over my diffusers when the sun was very bright or nearly overhead. I run a chrony and I have passed this on to others that had issues as well in the bright sun.

Scott, When I spoke of "adjusting the skyscreens" I adjust the angle of the base that holds the skyscreens. As I use a tripod to hold the screns I angle tripd so that there is a shadow on the pick ups. Or as shootingbuff suggests drapping a cover over them to let in a little light on a bright day. later rdd
