Are add on magazine wells for the AR15 a good idea ?

There are quite a few ranging from polymer models starting at 25 bucks all the way to machined aluminum for around 100 bucks a pop.

Are they recommended ?

Thanks for your input.

I habe a arrendondo I keep in my 3gun bag. If I see a couple stages starting unloaded or require mag changes I may put it on before the match but otherwise I think it looks silly LOL. I am looking into a lower with a nice molded flared magwell for my next build

I live in a capacity restricted State so when I shoot at home...there are LOTS of mag changes. I see a benefit there but I don't have a great deal of experience running a rifle in practical shooting type matches.

In that case, I'd think about getting one. Mag changes are fairly rare at most of the matches I go to.

I have an arredondo. It is awesome for mag changes and unloaded gun starts. I have found two drawbacks with running that big old honking mag well. SO now I only install it when I think it may be an advantage like a 3GN classifier or a stage with unloaded guns.

It hurt me once trying to hook my magwell over a roof top barricade. It would not allow me to get up against the roof top like i would normally like so it made the gun less stable.

It does not allow you to insert coupled mags that are coupled by the factory magpul coupler. it is just too wide.
