Has anyone had any experience with one of these?
I saw one a few months ago while I was vacation up in Virgina
and it felt great. I just finished up my AR15 project and am
now thinking about starting a build for one of these since PSA
has a pretty decent deal on a FiveSeven upper right now.

How much research into the neutered 5.7 x 28mm ammunition have you done?

The "good stuff" arrives and is locked in a US Customs bonded warehouse and is not saleable to non-Police agencies.

You're basically getting a .22 magnum with a FPS boost.

It all depends on your end use but I personally wouldn't buy a gun chambered in a round designed to defeat body armor and then have to settle for non-armor-penetrating practice ammo because the penetrator ammo is illegal.

What are you going to use this rifle for and what made you select the 5.7 x 28mm ? You may be better served by selecting another chambering.

The only reasoning I have is that I've always loved the FN PS90
but never brought myself to drop the $1500 but then I was browsing
around PSA's website the other day and saw they have the AR FiveSeven
upper w/ 5 - 50rnd mags and 4 boxes of ammo for around $700.
Thought it sounded like a good idea because I have been trying to think
of something to do with my extra lower. But now that I know been informed
it sounds like I would be better off just getting a dedicated .22lr upper.

The AR57 looks pretty cool, having the magazine flush with the top and casings come out of the mag well. It is your own preference that counts, since you are the buyer.

I'm not familiar with the AR 57's, are they as interchangeable as the 15's? You might consider both uppers and save yourself a bit of cash at the range with the .22.

The round was designed to be armor piercing to fulfill the requirements of a PDW. The duty ammo is illegal in the US for non-LE Agencies.

I merely wanted to ensure the original poster was aware of this and the fact that the ammo will not perform to the standard espoused online or in gun magazines as the ammo tested is generally the "hot" variety and that the money spent may be better applied to another caliber as I have made ignorant purchase mistakes in the past that would've been prevented had I taken the time to not be impulsive and to research and ask questions.

It's kind of like when you're enlisting in the military. The recruiter can field the questions of people that have never served quite easily. When they are coached and informed by prior-service people the recruiters squirm because the questions are well-informed and the correct questions that most people are ignorant of.

The 5.7 x 28mm kills people and other animals. This is not in question. I was merely trying to prevent someone from spending "too much" money on a caliber that doesn't give the return on the investment they may be making. This is why I asked them for clarification on why they selected such a niche caliber instead of something else that would be more attractive from a cost, ballistics and parts replacement standpoint.

The way I type is the way I speak. I am direct and don't waste time with hints or subtlety. I wanted to bring to light concerns I had with the caliber and asked the original poster if they were aware of these concerns and how they overcame them if they did or why these concerns were not shared. This way either they can learn from me or I can learn from them or we both can learn from someone else more well-informed with the nuances of the 5.7 x 28mm round.

Again, it's all from personal experience of wasting thousands of dollars on impulsive and uninformed purchases over the years. I don't want others to make a costly mistake that might burn their tastes to the gun hobby that needs more enthusiasts and spenders. I never mean any offense. My words mean what they mean. Enjay, this is an excerpt from a thread I had started a while back pertaining to the P90:

Recently a conversion kit for the 5.7x28mm to be used with AR-15s has even come out on the market. It replaces the upper receiver and barrel, then using the magazine well to expel the spent casings. Somewhat pricey(saw one at Cheaper Than Dirt for $799 during the summer), yet an interesting conversion if you already have an AR-15 or two and don't wish to shell out the money for a new PS90.

From what I have seen so far, they are calling these conversions the AR57. They look pretty cool and use the same magazines as the P90 and PS90 models. If I had an AR-15 I would be sorely tempted to get one of those conversion kits- but then again I live in Moscowchusetts which pretty much says it all.

I like the PS90 and the idea of the 5.7. The weapon was designed for CQB. Not intended for long range fights. Small, light, 50 rounds and considering that a nice weapon that has more bite than most handguns. It is on my list for future acquisition.

The 50 round magazine is definitely a positive. A quick price-check on Google shows them to be under $30 as opposed to the 60 round SureFire magazines in 5.56 which are $130.

It does look pretty awesome when the barrel is the appropriate length instead of an obtrusive 16"

That's a good looking set up on that Bushmaster. I never really thought about the minimum barrel length being dictated by the length of the magazine!
I think the 5.7 is a neat 'lil round but simply can't bring myself to load yet another caliber.

Wow, that is a major price difference!!!
