Ok long story short, I bought my first ar-15 in October of 2012 and we all know what happens soon after. I finally gave in to the high prices and purchased a stripped lower for my first build. I know I probably payed way to much for it but I got bit by the bug and with parts and prices starting to come down from panic mode I wanna do a build. So a few LGS have ar parts in stock but they still seem kinda high and internet shopping i get tired of looking at items to find out they are out of stock. Could someone give my prices for what were reasonable amounts for parts pre panic I know prices where way down pre Obama so post election prices are fine. Just general prices for BCG, stripped uppers, Complete uppers, LPK, ect... Reasonable brands that were common to find. Thanks.

Have you tried Palmetto State Armory in Columbia????

You may have to drive there to get what you need, but, they seem to have about everything back now, so, you should be able to get what you need...

I was building my first AR during those events. i ordered a stripped upper from Palmetto State Armory during their Black Friday sale in November. I think it was like $375 (it's pretty basic).

I was lacking a bolt carrier group and magazines when Sandy Hook happened. I managed to get some magazines at MSRP but could not find a bolt carrier group at a reasonable price. Just before Christmas I lucked into one at PSA (when my upper was ready) and got it for $125 which was about what they sold for prior to the panic.

Lower parts kits were running around $100, including a basic stock and buffer tube. PSA was running them on sale in the $85 range. LPKs without stocks and buffer tubes were in the $50 to $60 range at most places.

PSA just had a Blackhawk rifle kit for $699.

everything but the lower.

pre panic lowers were $49. BCG was $99 MOE stock kit was $80.

my deticated CMMG 22 upper was $369.

DELTON rifle kits were $389. with my tax check i was going to buy 11 kits. my wife thought i was crazy, so.... rifles were selling for $600.

2 years or so ago were the days. if we had only known.

Thanks for the responses. LGS is a bit high as I suspected. LPK are 100$ and BCG are 190$. Guess that is why they have them still sitting. I know in this climate parts are hard to come by but in lou of recent events seems like things should return to some sort of pre panic. Looks like a trip to Columbia is in the future.

What kind of stock do you plan to use? I have an A2 stock with spring and buffer. I was hding it for a future build but don't have a clue when that will happen.

FWIW, although PSA didn't have any lower kits last time I was there, I pieced together two sets from their parts wall. $35 each for everything but the trigger group and one mag button. Midway has a few different nicer trigger groups (not Giesselle, but tuned) like the ALG for $40-65. That puts you at around $80 for a lower (sans stock, tube, spring and buffer). That is mighty high compared to the $50 PSA LPK days, but still not outrageous.

I guess I've been lucky with stocks - I like fixed stocks, and I think I've got $35 total in my A2 and M16 (no bloody A, 1, or 2) stocks together.
