App to identify gun owners

How would it be illegal?

It is an open source "put a mark where you think there are guns stored in an unsafe manner" application.

That means it takes a person to download the app and then to manually input data themselves. The company has nothing to do with it other than providing a map and electronic "pins" to put in the map.

Kind of like how you can't hold Rand McNally responsible for a rapist buying their map and putting pushpins in the locations where he thinks the best targets are.

It personally offends me but I can see where it would be a sound business idea given the past year of anti-gun hysteria.

I'd like to see an identical program where, instead of "unsafe gun locations", we can mark "Trayvon hotspots" where we think we're most likely to be attacked by violent criminals that need to be shot dead like a rabid dog.

Talk about a lame app. The developer of this crap must be a total clown.

If I had an Android, I'd already have every police station, city hall, and other public building identified. I'd also drop random pins in the richy rich neighborhoods along with randon pins in malls, Piers Morgan's house, Michael Moore's house and whereever else amused me. Once the entire country is covered in pins, maybe the hopolophobes will lock themselves in their basements and never come out again.

How about an app that reminds you by chime or alarm not to go into gun-prohibited places/areas. Keep someone from walking into Moe's without thinking about it, and potentially losing their 2A right forever.

I would buy it! Even better you could get pro 2A alerts for stores that do support it as well. Or even better yet scan codes for products. Rotarymike you may have stumbled on something here.

An example....I'm at a place in NC designated as a foreign trade zone. It violates federal law to even have a firearm in a FTZ. I have marked the sight as a dangerous place due to unsafe guns and substance abuse issues.

I have downloaded the app. I am purposely marking everywhere I go. My goal is to make it utterly useless and stupid
So tell us non-droids, did you see other markings in our area or are you the sole whistleblower?

How about an app that shows us the location of everybody who downloaded this app?

Note also, it gets only 1 of 5 stars on Google Play. See the reviews, some humerous:

"The gun rights community has been busy making personal threats (we remain unconcerned), as well as spamming the Gun Geo Marker database with false markers," he exclusively told FoxNews.com. "Though these fake markers are not useful for identifying dangerous guns and owners, they are certainly representative of the highly paranoid reaction we have come to expect from any attempt to improve gun safety in the United States.
"This kind of reaction -- automatically lining up on the wrong side of reasonable measures to improve the safe use and ownership of guns -- aids and abets the crisis of child shooting deaths," he said.

I'd hate to give this pinhead too much thought, but what did he expect his little app to actually do? Let's assume that his app had lots of pins in it, which were accurately located identifying where all the bad gun owners are.

Since we know that the majority of violent gun crime is predictable in its geographic location and lifestyle of its perpetrators, it seems silly to assume anyone would be surprised of the concentration of pins in certain neighborhoods.

Of course, we also know that what will actually happen is that some pissy-pants hand wringer will report his crazy gun toting neighbor for being dangerous because he doesn't like his monster truck, or motorcycle, or hairstyle or Prius. Ok, the Prius part is a stretch.

Did he really expect people to be driving around and all of the sudden notice on their phone that the neighborhood had lots of pins in it. I can picture it now: "holly crap honey, this is a bad neighborhood. We better get the kids out of here or they are going to get shot. Thank you Gun Geo Marker!"

The Survival Podcast had an interview with the developer here:

That program fails my test.
If you go to the website you can do a search. I search SC. Listed Outback Steakhouse as a yes. Last I checked Outback served alcohol. That still means no carry in SC.

I like the concept of safe to carry, but it would be a nightmare to keep up to date and I think I would likely become complacent and forget to scan for new/changed signage.

forgot to say....if there was a pinnable bad neighborhood app I'm pretty sure certain neighborhoods in this area would have more pins than a dressmakers dummy!

One of the major map-software algorithm developers made an "avoid ghetto" function, kind of like the options to "avoid tolls" or "avoid traffic."

Of course, certain elements decried it as racist. I wonder why nobody has condemned this app's developer as racist?

I also approve of corrupting the database.
