Anyone interested in prepping

You'll reap the benefits of the generator here in OK, between the ice, wind, and storms. Something to think about, and something that the installer is supposed to think about but in my area they have overlooked this. Make sure the exhaust pipe for the generator, if it rises above the generator itself, rises above the eaves of the house. I'm on a rural VFD and we've gone out several times over the last couple years, on different homes, on generators who were not exhuasted correctly, and they filled the house with CO. Everytime, the exhust pipe didn't rise above the sophet vents, and the wind would carry the exhaust thru the vents, and fill the house with CO from the top floor down. Fortunately they had CO detectors.

Wow! That is a good piece of advice!!! Fortunately this house is foam insulated and there are no vents in the sophet.

Jesse are you really using Geothermal heating and cooling? If so do you have a link for info, I been reading up on Geothermal energy. Because of cheap energy cost and self sufficent energy. Thanks Marshal

My wife wouldn't bite on the $50,000 to do geothermal vs $16,000 for conventional HVAC So we didn't do it. Tony Wall is an engineer for a geothermal company in OKC. He has a system at his house too. He can point you in the right direction.

I've read that the upfront cost is big but the saving make up for it. 50,000 is alot of making up though! Thanks for info about Tony.

It's just like anything that's more energy efficient. 5-10 year pay back is common. We never plan to leave this next house do it would have been cost effective eventually but who knows if the works comes to an end in December we will be glad we didn't waste the money.

We have a geothermal unit in our house. Our house is total electric. We have well water. We pay electric, phone and trash.
It has been a great system.
About 2700 Square feet, Highest bill we have had in 8 years is $280.00. We spent money on good windows and alot, ALOT of insulation.
The control unit is "Water Furnace" brand. The actual geothermal unit does not have a name on it.
