As subject says. I might need a holster for steel challenge-type stuff with my Walther SP22... cheap nylon deals can be had on ebay but I need one that accommodates the barrel weights and probably cutout for an optic... so I'm thinking kydex.

Looking for standard owb belt hoster - just enough to meet the requirements of the sport.

I shoot Steel Challenge in Spartanburg from time to time. Centerfire pistol shooters begin each string with a holstered gun but rimfires start from a low ready position. Most of the rimfire shooters "bag" their guns between stages.

If you want a holster, great. My point is that you may not need a holster for Steel Challenge.

That is a fun game. Accessible to new shooters but there are lots of top level shooters if you like a challenge.

OK then - all the vids I've seen are centerfire or rimfire rifle. To say that the Steel Challenge website isn't very useful would be an understatement.

Never really wanted a holster for this gun - I've got a nice enough padded rug for it. But it really looked like that was a requirement.

I have a hard time cutting and pasting from my phone. I can try it later from a computer.

The padded rug will work fine to carry the gun around. The money you save on the holster you can spend on extra magazines! They recommend that you come to the line with enough preloaded mags to shoot all five strings.

I considered shooting my single action revolvers in a match but I was concerned I would hold up the group loading and unloading them.

I wish. I'm glad I have two magazines - they are unobtainium anywhere. I saw one on gunbroker for $50 but it went before I could even bid.

Thanks folks for magazine suggestions. Problem is, the P22 magazines don't fit the SP22.

I've got this:

The P22 is pretty easy to find magazines for. The SP22, not so much.

OK, here are some relevant excerpts from the Steel Challenge rules: https://steelchallenge.com/steel-challe ... s-Home.php

Section 3 Competitor Equipment Rules

Holsters: In general, holsters shall be mounted in the general vicinity of the waist, must cover the trigger, and must safely hold/retain the gun. All Centerfire handguns must be appropriate for holster use.
Rimfire competition does not involve the use of a holster.
Category-specific holster restrictions may apply. See Appendix A for Division-specific requirements.
Due to the unique nature of the Steel Challenge, drawing from concealment is not allowed.

Start Position:
The start position is standing within the box. When the competitor is ready they will assume the required start position to indicate their readiness to the Range Official. The competitor must remain in the appropriate position until the start signal.
In center fire competition, hands are to be held in the ?surrender position? with wrists and hands above the shoulders and fully visible from behind.
In the Rimfire Match, there will be an aiming point (flag or sign) centered downrange directly in front of each shooters box approximately 10? away and 2? high. Where multiple boxes are on a stage such as in Outer Limits, the flag will be placed in the center of the array. The competitor while waiting for the start signal, must be pointing/aiming their gun at the flag/sign with the finger off the trigger.
Long gun competitors will start with the firearm muzzle aimed at an aiming point (flag or sign). The competitor while waiting for the start signal, must be pointing/aiming their gun at the flag/sign with the finger off the trigger.
A competitor not in the proper start position at the start signal will incur penalties. See Section 7 for penalty information.
Any firearm that begins a stage from the low ready shall require the shooter to start with the finger off the trigger. Said firearm may start with hammer cocked and, if applicable, with the 6 safety off. For holster starts see section 8 number 8.

Mike, the CDNN Sports catalog used to have the Walther SP22 pistols and accessories. They are big on closeouts but when stuff is gone, it's gone. I missed out on a good deal on a Browning shotgun and on some Ruger revolvers by not moving fast enough.

I checked their website and don't see any magazines for your pistol but it MIGHT be worth calling or emailing CDNN to be sure.

I would not let a shortage of magazines hold me back. I'd ask a friend to reload one magazine while I shot another.

So here's a thought - anyone in Charleston have a P22? The mags supposedly will work with a minor baseplate mod, and those magazines are everywhere.
