Anybody a 10/22 freak

I have one I have been shooting long range to enhance my shooting fundamentals. With Lapua $27 per 50 and Eley match $15 per 50 I am getting consistent .460" 5 shot groups at 50 yards with a complete stock rifle. Does anybody have an aftermarket barrel that is giving them better results than what I'm getting. A guy at my club has a Lilja match barrel and he shoots one hole groups all day long with even cheap ammo but I cant see dropping $450 in a barrel for a complete gun that cost $350.

I am also wanting to put an aftermarket trigger but so many brands So I'm hoping somebody can vouch for one. I want a light, no creep, adjustable pull trigger.

Also has anybody done the receiver drilling mod to allow cleaning rods from the breech to properly clean the barrel. There is a few companies on midway and brownells selling drilling kits to do this mod. Just wondering if anybody has done it.

I have 2 10/22's...Love to shoot them....Have about $300. in each....but, they are killers at 100 yards...

Yeah we have the same competitions with the same $4000 rifles at Palmetto. We have one all weekend to be exact. The problem is nobody is shooting 10/22's...The NRA is starting up a long range .22LR F-class and we are going to be starting it up next month so that is the gun I am going to use.

I did the cleaning hole mod on my 10/22 myself...

Disassemble action. Candle-smoked the end of my cleaning rod, inserted it from the muzzle, noted where it marked the back wall of the receiver, drilled that spot out with a Unibit so I got a nice bevel on both sides. Maybe 3/16 or so, so I can pass a patch through that way easier. 2nd best mod I've ever done to the gun (first being the bolt release).

Henry you can borrow one of mine to test drive if you'd like. It's got a .920" Olympic SS barrel with some aftermarket trigger parts swapped into the pack.

The problem was the chamber was soooo tight it would only digest high end match ammo such as Federal Gold Medal, RWS, Eley and the like. Had the chamber reamed a wee bit and function is much better but I can't say whether the accuracy has suffered.

My other 10/22 has a factory barrel shortened to 16.5" and resides in a Choate folding stock. It always goes to the range cuz it's so much fun with a can & subs.

I might not be a 10/22 fanatic but I do love to shoot them!

I have 3 10/22s and they all shoot great but I've been wanting to tinker with them some to improve accuracy as well. From the research I've done, KIDD triggers get tons of praise as the best. Volquartsen seems to come in second and Timney is somewhere behind them.

It should well be everyone's first gun. It was mine 25 years ago, still shoots as good as the first day I got it. Congratulations, and welcome to "the club." Your second gun should be a Ruger Mark pistol, even an old one.

The missus and I both have 10/22s... Our first gun was a 10/22.

Both have gotten what I've started to think of as the "essential" package for 10/22s: new recoil buffer, upgraded hammer and sear to bring the trigger weight down, tech-sights and/or a scope, and a new stock (although the original stocks are actually ok, especially if you add sling swivels). I wish that Ruger sold them with a few of these perks built in but I imagine that it would be too hard to compete in the "Budget .22" category if you added even $50 to the price. You can do a lot of improvement for not much money (although of course you can pour endless money into the 10/22 too...).

I dream about someday having a suppressed 10/22 (maybe even a SBR -- why not dream, right?) with a nice light tac sol aluminum barrel in a fun color. But sadly such a rifle would be over a grand to put together. Maybe someday.

I must say that I am in love with my gun. My .308 knows I'm having an affair. Its bad when I pick up 10/22 to go shoot 200 yards before I want to pick up my .308 to shoot 800....Just useless knowledge....If you are zeroed at 50 yards and need to kill a squirrel at 200 yards you need to come up 22.75 MOA but make sure and read the wind because even the slightest breeze will take you off course at that distance.

Dropped a KIDD trigger kit in mine and it runs like a sewing machine! Not sure how light the trigger pull is but would guess 2lbs or less. Also added an Elysium bull barrel, Hogue stock, Nikon rimfire scope, and polished the inside of the receiver. Mods can really make a difference and they're so fun to tinker with!

I've got a 10/22 with a Tactical Solutions 16.5" barrel, Hogue over-molded stock and a trigger reworked by my local gunsmith up here in Sumter and I easily get 1/2" groups at 50 yards with bulk ammo. I typically shoot inside of 50 yards just plinking, but I can go out further if I need to. I was using a Nikon 3-9x40 Rimfire scope but recently swapped it out for a red dot for faster target acquisition when plinking. I don't do long distance stuff, but it's nice to know that I could if I wanted to.

Check out Volquartsen for the Ruger trigger kits. I think mine has Power Custom parts, but I'm not certain. The local guy here did it (and did a damn fine job of it). KIDD is nice. I've fired a gun with their components before. If I ever get up the coin, I'll drop one of those in for sure. Until then, though, I'm good with what I've got.

Bought my first 10/22 in 1982 at Wal Mart after working ALL summer saving for the gun and have been addicted to 10/22's since. For a good while I enjoyed the "race rifle" incarnation of 10/22.. super accurate heavy barrel guns with VQ trigger groups and various types of laminated stocks, but now days I have migrated back to the utility versions more for woods use and informal plinking fun.

i cant see a squrrel at 200 yards.

hardly ever shoot a deer past 50. i have but i like to let them get close, like under my treestand or if im on the ground around 30 yds. that gets the blood pumping. i have a video of a 6 pt wandering by 10 ft away and never saw me on the ground.
