Any idea what this is ?

The head of it is a solid brass cone with a slot on the bottom that the flat knife style blade fits into about a 1/4 way in. The blade hinges 90 degrees open, the edge faces the brass cone.
I've had this in a tool drawer at work. The campus I work at is dated back to the 1930's, & had a hospital at one time, had hogs & cows, grew vegitables, etc. was a self supporting facility.
I'm thinking it's for slitting hoses, but don't know the reason for.

I like old/antique tools. I always check em out when I pass a flea market or antique shop. I've seen a few of these over the years. Though I guess it would also work for slitting a hose, if by some chance one needed a slit hose.

A great use for a slit hose is a protective edge on sheet metal. If you've ever tried to slit a hose by hand, it can be tricky to keep your cut from spiraling or going off axis. Good find.

Wow, I actually DID use a old garden hose as a sort of bumper on the low shelves I had built into my garage. Figured that looked like a great shin banger and thought the hose would lessen the impact a bit when it happened.

I used a box cutter and a helper to slit the hose.
