The NRA Facebook page and twitter account appear to have been deactivated. American Guns has been canceled. I'm even getting some post and emails from anti-gunners from my blog. Anti-gunners are posting all over the place that gun people should be shot or killed.

Why is it that anti-gun people want to kill/shoot people they don't agree with but gun people want to try and convince people about the good things about guns... Not shoot them. Just saying... Maybe anti-gunners shouldn't be allowed to purchase guns or other objects of a violent nature.

Every website I'm on, no surprise, is full of like minded people who are outraged that our rights may be (who I am I kidding: WILL BE) diminished because of panic legislation by those who seek to change things they do not understand.

We can't possibly rationalize it, and I'm afraid we can't even do anything about it. Even writing our congressmen, senators, etc I worry won't do any good. Everyone knows, since there are no term limits, they are only out for re-election and job security, and if not signing a new assault weapons ban means their name gets tarnished and their job security goes away, they'll sign it.

So what can the millions of us do except suffer the consequences of a few deranged individuals? I don't think we can do much at all.

Mob mentality is taking over, maybe when they go overboard they will see that they are no better than anybody else. How self righteous they will become when they crank up their crusade. Funny how most of them never HAD let alone WAVED an american flag until 9/11- bunch of nouveau patriots went out and bought up anything and everything pro USA then. I never was a flag waver, but I supported my country(and especially our troops/veterans) better than them by studying and learning what my country was all about since I was little. How many of them have even SEEN a VA hospital, let alone actually GO IN one?I think all of our veterans left from the golden generation, the forgotten war, Vietnam, and everywhere else should bitchslap some sense into this country and make them listen to THE WHOLE STORY OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. It is really about them that we get to actually LIVE here!

Otherwise, let them be stuck with the cesspool it will eventually become- they want it all PC and whatnot so badly, they're really doing a bangup job!!!

Sorry, but I am really getting pissed about what is happening here in the 21st century USSA- I miss the USA that I loved dearly since birth.

Sincerely,
Midnight Raver

P.S.: I really could not give a damn about an "ASSAULT WEAPONS" ban- it is the narrow minded agenda that the uneducated jumping on the Gun Control bandwagon are waving our flag about.

Another board I visit, a gentleman posted that his daughter works at Richards Sporting Goods(d icks) and that corporate called and as of midnight Richards no long sells AR style rifles. Now how true this is we will have to wait and see. Hopefully they have a clear out sale.

We can do what we should have done in November, Get out the Vote! Campaign for the best people we can find and support. Put pressure on the groups in the state capitals and in Washington. Push come to shove, begin a recall campaign. Keep vocally pushing and spending to support businesses that refuse to knuckle under. Support media outlets that do not betray this country with a leftist agenda. Advertising drives TV Print and Radio programing. Vocally refuse to patronize businesses that use these outlets to advertise. If we stay quiet, if we don't withdraw our money that makes the wheels of power turn, we will be run over by a vocal minority. I refuse to believe that the majority of Americans actually agree with the agenda being framed by this administration. If we can't make ourselves heard and kick the butts of the sorry bastards who refused to vote or wasted their vote , we will be trampled under a Gucci jackboot.

End of rant. I 'm not feeling optimistic either.

I think if thats true we should all go into our local richards and specifically reguest AR style weapons. or all show up at one store at the same time and go in and ask for them there, then complain to management when they are not available. we could always try writing to them to see if it makess a difference, but i would expect almost no response to that tactic

and it just broke officially. Richards has suspended all sales of "assault style" rifle.

http://www.cnn.com/2012/12/18/justice/c ... index.html

(CNN) -- Dick's Sporting Goods, one of the largest sporting goods retailers in the world, says it has removed all guns from its store nearest to Newtown, Connecticut, and is suspending the sale of certain kinds of semi-automatic rifles from its chains nationwide.

The move was made out of respect for the victims and families of last week's Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting "during this time of national mourning," the store said in a statement Tuesday morning.

"We continue to extend our deepest sympathies to those affected by this terrible tragedy," the statement said.

It was unclear how long the store will keep the suspension in place for the guns, known as 'modern sporting rifles.

Cheaper than Dirt has just suspended all gun sales as well. Never bought from them as their shipping prices were obnoxious but the trend looks pretty grim.

I'm not sure a new AWB would get through Congress. What I do see possibly happening is restricting large capacity magazines, prohibiting internet ammo sales, and perhaps prohibiting private sales (ie, forcing private sales to go through a dealer). Perhaps stopping internet sales of significant gun parts as well (think AR uppers).

Sad thing is, if the gov't does do any of these things, it will create a market rush to buy up stuff before the ban(s) are enacted. It will end up putting MORE of the undesirables out there - the same thing happened with the 1994 AWB.

To be honest, I can't justify high-cap rifle mags in a need-based way. No one NEEDS 30 rounds or more that is not professionally shooting lots of things or people.

No one NEEDS a sports car, unless they're a professional racecar driver. No one NEEDS a computer or internet access unless their job requires it. No one NEEDS privacy unless they're doing something they shouldn't be. No one NEEDS a car, it is a privilege and not a right. If 99% of the owners of a thing are responsible law-abiding citizens and only 1% turn out to be kooks, then I think we've actually done pretty well.

We are not a nation of NEED-based ideals. We are a nation of aspirations, hopes, and dreams - and that includes wants, even if just for amusement.

To put it another way, the government doesn't NEED to remove our ability to defend ourselves. It just wants to.

something was pointed out to me yesterday that would be even worse than an actuall AWB. Suppose, just suppose, that instead of an assault weapons ban they just added a tax to the items instead. It is within the federal governmental pervue to tax weapons (there is a 10-12% excise tax already on weapons, except for law enforcement or military sales). It has been repeated upheld by the Supreme Court (see the Obama care decision to start with). If they simply enact a fixed amount tax, say 1000$ each, on weapons sales with the proceeds ?going to support the victims of violent crimes? (let us say) they have created a de facto assault weapons ban. I live on the short end of the income stick already. I could not afford another pistol or rifle if the price point was 1000$ + the actual cost of the weapon. Or Chicago?s attempt at a per bullet tax, applied nationally by executive order under the emergency powers, could just be placed into law at only, say, 1$/bullet for the same effect. Then you have the same effect, without that pesky second amendment getting in the way. After all taxation without accountable representation is what government is all about these days, or so it seems to me lately. Plus all those wonderfull taxes from gun owners who would, of course, continue to buy the objects of their perverse affections and addictions would help balance out the budget. at a million guns sold per year in the US thats like, a billion dollars of revenue to help balance the budget right there

Interesting you don't hear much about the positive side of the argument:

That was by an "only one" though so it doesn't count. People with badges have Magic Gun Powers even when moonlighting for extra cash.

Although the antis want to disarm off duty and retired cops, too. Most will vociferously fight letting either carry in schools (Fed Gun Free School Zone Act has no exception for "off duty cops" unless they have the right CWP; LEOSA has no provision letting retired cops carry in schools). Ask an anti if you don't believe me. Insanity.

Politely contact your legislators and let them know where you stand. The anti's are screaming and OUR voice also needs to be heard. I sent this letter this morning to both GA senators and my congressman:

Senator Chambliss, Senator Isakson, and Representative Kingston,

The tragedy in Connecticut, as well as the similar tragedy in Colorado a few months ago, has raised a clamor of voices saying guns and gun owners are evil. If this is true, then I am evil. I am a husband, father, veteran, taxpayer, and gun owner. I am a believer in the 2nd Amendment and I know our founding fathers specifically included it for a reason ? our most basic right is the right to self-determination and defense of ourselves and our loved ones. Guns cannot be evil ? only people can be evil and every citizen deserves the right to protect themselves as they deem necessary.

New, more, or ?better? gun laws will accomplish nothing as criminals do not follow laws ? and the people that commit these heinous acts are criminals ? nothing more and nothing less. More legislation and more restrictions will only place every citizen in more danger. Had the teachers and staff of Sandy Hook Elementary been allowed to be armed ? this terrible act would likely have been prevented or mitigated. The cowards that perform these acts always seek out targets of opportunity like gun free zones because they know that law abiding citizens will be defenseless.

I will be watching how my elected representatives react to this situation with great interest. I understand that as an elected official it is easy and safe to go with the flow and support new gun restrictions; however, I have hopes that you and your peers have the moral conviction to do what is right. What you do in the coming days, weeks and months will be watched with interest by people just like me. We cherish our constitutional rights and will not support elected leaders that will leave us powerless and defenseless.

Thank you for serving this great country and I wish you health and success as you represent me and my family in these trying times. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you and yours!

Sincerely,

Dave ............
