It looks like Rusty and I have something in common. Could this be repaired? I was putting it back together after cleaning and the take down tool slipped and got got between that part of the frame and the guide rod. It really made my night. I wondering, beside catastrophic failure and death, what else could go wrong if I shot it in this condition if not repairable.

From what I was told by the person I bought from in Arizona, a local smith in his area, forgot the name.

that gunsmith made a very bad decision.
Yeah, in the pictures when I bought it looked like it had just been shaved down in that area, not completely hollowed out. I'm not sure what to do at this point.

Call STI. Doubt that they'll warranty it, but they might sell you another at a discount? They've had great customer service in the past. Saw them at a match once scrounging for parts to get a guys gun running so he could continue. They told him that if they couldn't get his running he could shoot one of the new ones they had with them to finish the match.

It looks like I'm going to buy a new slide. Does anyone know of a local smith who can fit it to my frame. I'm not sure if that accurate guy is doing that kind of work right now? The faster the better, I'd like to shoot it in the sectional coming up, but don't want someone screwing up my gun.

I started to send them an email asking about it and it just didn't feel right for some reason, not after what's been done to the slide. I don't know, I'm just going to take my losses on this one.
