i don't really buy into the theory that the lacquer coating is that bad.. if it was why would Hornady use steel cases and lacquer coatings? of course I'm not thinking of a full auto beta mag dump either...

I had some Hornady practice ammo that was steel cased. It was brow and looked like the academy brand Monatch or Brown Bear. All of the bowm stuff runs great. Accuracy is as you would expect. The shiny silver bear or the darker grey dry steel cases that Hornady uses on the steel match all have occasionally random stuck cases.
The best explanation I have read in a forum so take it for what it cost u is that the steel cased stuff expands less than brass so you get carbon blow by around the cases. The carbon builds up and eventually you get stuck cases especially when u switch back to a brass cased round that expands more. Like I said I haven't done any experimenting or measure of the cases to confirm this but it made the most sense to me of all the crack pot explanations out there.

Thats a good reson Jesse it would explain why a clown like me who has never fired more than 100 rounds of the hornady steel at once has never had a problem.

I have had very poor experience with the Tulammo. Bought some several months ago and was trying to shoot through a Daniel Defense 16" carbine gas barrel. Casings keep getting stuck in chamber. Had to get the pliers out to get the last one out after several not ejecting.
This weekend a buddy I brought shooting gave me a couple boxes so I decided to try them to see if they would function in a JP 20" barrel. Once again they would not cycle and I stopped after only a couple rounds.
Hopefully you guys have better luck with the Tulammo than me.

My stuck cases always happen during high round count shooting when it's hot. I don't think the cooling is causing it.

Was the chamber on those rifles .223, .223 Wylde, or 5.56? I wonder if chamber tightness is a factor. My JP barrels are tight which is a good thing for accuracy but I'm guessing a bad thing for steel cases ammo.
Kurt told me he did a test with a brown lawyer coated steel case where he geared it up with a torch to try to get the lawyer to melt and it didn't seem to be a problem.
Maybe he will chime in and elaborate.

I know folks who shoot or had shot a lot of the lacquer stuff with no problems. I also know folks who have had stuck cases, broken extractors and otherwise a piss poor day shooting it. I was thinking tighter cambers might be the cause. After reading J.T's comments about blow by and if that is happening then maybe it is the lose chambers getting gunked up and the tight chambers sealing better from the start. I don't know, that is why it would be great if someone with a bucket full of ammo could shed some light on this.
