American Marksman Amateur Shooting Competition

If I was an amateur I'd go shoot and let them figure out if I was over qualified. It would make a great court case if you won and they later took your crown away because they found out you traded sexual favors at a gay strip bar while you were putting yourself through college at OU.

I have a question.

If one progresses past the local events, and goes to regionals, where are the regionals going to be held? Where are the finals going to be held?

I understand and applaud the concept is to get folks off the couch and out to the range 1000%

Will the individual winner of the locals be required to pay their own way to regionals and eventually the finals? Will it be on their dime, and if so, will the ammo be provided?

So for this first local round, are irons and red dots separated, or just all lumped together for scoring results

Everyone is scored within their category only (Men, Women, Junior, Law/Mil).

There are 8 regional venues under contract with only the NE being up in the air. Colorado, Texas, Alabama, West Virginia, Indiana, Washington, Nevada, Nebraska July and August. The regionals have all the firearms and ammunition provided, 6 stages, $99. The finals are at CMP Talledega, first week of January, all firearms and ammunition provided, more than 6 stages :) $149.

For the finals, all of the categories compete head to head for the $50K and American Marksman title. However, there will also be cash prizes and titles for the 3 highest finishers in each category.

Your ACTUAL USPSA classification, which if you are M or GM, no-fly zone. IDPA is Master only..
Thanks Mark, appreciate you answering the barrage of questions and for your videos, been very helpful

In some other places, people have asked me what a competitive time is. My hunch is that if you can have a score of 30 seconds total on a sheet (3 strings, 25 rounds) you will likely qualify for regionals. I have run about a dozen people, from GMs to never shot a match, and have seen times from about 15 to 125 out of the gate. I started out at about 17 and now, after having put about 1000 rounds onto AM targets, I can consistently run in the 13 second range clean. Shot an 11.65 yesterday. Of pistol with irons and dot and rifle with irons and dot, I am the fastest with the irons pistol. That will surely be individual, but if you want to have your best score as opposed to a qualifying score, practice.

These target sheets come back for 2 of the 6 stages at Regionals, so knowing your speed limit will be a good benefit if you move on. They will be shot with high end supplied 22LR pistol and rifle, both with Iron sights.
