Just finished my first 6.8 SPC build. I went the Tacticool route because I had an extra SBR lower and a Silencerco Saker 762 lying around looking for a host. There are a few pics below.

I figure the rifle will be used primarily for plinking and showing off to my gun buddies which means I'll only be shooting 50-100 yards at the home range.

If I ever get the time I hope to take it hunting with the Niece and Nephews which is how I will set it up. So I am thinking variable power 1-6, 2-10 or 3-9 type scope with some hunting rounds. But since I literally know zero about the caliber and very little about all of the awesome hunting ammo that is available these days I figure I will let you guys talk and i'll do the listening like a good poster.

Jesse,
I am running a 1x optic on my 6.8. Not running a can but the Hornady 110gr V-Max dropped a 200lb pig dead from a full run. It's very capable out to about 300 yards, but more than that it falls off pretty quick. I would say yours is just about good to go as it sits. If you aren't going to run subsonic, that's a hell of a game load. For plinking, PSA has the best price on 115gr FMJ American Eagle at about $.50/round, that I have found.. It's a fun round and after that last hunting trip, I am sold on it.

Haven't waded off into the 6.8 world yet but, I know from experience the 115 and 135 gr Match Kings from Sierra fly wonderfully from my .270 Winchester. I've also had damn good groupings inside 200 yards from the same rifle using the 90 Gr Varminter. They're devastating on prairie dogs, coyotes and cats.

If you reload and If you want to try either the 90 or 115 gr bullets let me know I can probably scare up a spare box of each for you.

Also I think I have some Barnes 85gr TacX bullets that shot like elephant dung through my rifle before I tried the Sierra stuff. I have a partial box of them if you want as well.

This is why you're my favorite one of the village people!

All joking aside all the factory ammo I've used from Hornady has performed phenomaly I use their 55gr Vmax in my AR and it's nothing special just a 6920 with a Alpha rail. I put an optic on it off of one of my bolt guns and it shot under 3/4 MOA. I was impressed and promptly bought 25 boxes of them. Everything else I bought factory loaded wise from Hornady I have been impressed with. Their brass is better than most and they use quality components and most important of all their QC is top notch. I don't buy ammo usually unless it's bulk pistol ammo from freedom. I reload all my stuff for my rifles it saves a few pennies but most importantly I know exactly how it will perform and I can duplicate it time and time again and not have to search out lot numbers and worry about zero. I have seen Remington offers factory loaded ammunition as well but I'd give the Hornady a shot before Remingtons stuff. Hope this helps.

None of the big manufacturers that I know of, I'll ask my cousin tomorrow he's a smith for the D.O.E and he's big into the 6.8 if I find a commercial source I'll let you know.

Jesse- Bison armory makes a subsonic load. Keep and eye out for federal 90 grain gold dots. Relatively cheap and excellent for plinking or hunting.

I saw bison armory had info on it and on building a rifle to shoot subbies but I can't find actual Ammo for sale on their website. I did email them. I'll let you know what they say.

But you can find them for 0.50/ round occasionally. If you reload there are pulled bullet specials all the time.

So how do you like the Saker? I'm going to talk to Steve at Cold Hand and have him get me the 5.56 version.
Why not your favorite Pro Shop dude?
