I took this younger than most H&R M1 Garand off Steve(fordnut) He sure hated to see it leave but I sure loved to see it leave him! This rifle is in PERFECT shape although it does not have the stock furniture. Looking forward to shooting her and learning more about her and joining the following of such an iconic weapon. HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME

I've liked that gun since I first saw it. Barrel being +1 year doesn't mean it's not original. See there's a national match rear sight - look online to figure out if the entire rifle is NM.

They're great fun. I've got a '55ish H&R, all H&R, that I refinished the stock on and it's a dream to shoot. Also have a '42 Springfield (not all SA) that is in what I would consider normal collector condition.

Look at CMP and see if you can get ammo and/or clips from them for cheap. If not, LMK and I'll see if I can help you out.

Since your gun isn't a collector piece, look into a Holbrook device and ported gas plug, they make the M1 more livable for the modern day shooter.

Edited to add: Upon looking at the pics full-size, you do have national match sights. And reading comprehension added the ported gas plug detail. So if it bites your thumb, get a Holbrook.

If no one buys my '42 from me, I might shorten the barrel, get a Boyd's stock in camo or pepper laminate, and refit it to use BAR mags (especially now that you can get 30-round BAR mags).

Thank you for the feedback Mike. After reading up on the Holbrook device I think it would suit my needs well. I found his post on another forum for 45.00 shipped. Would be great to head to the range with someone else with their Garand oneday, keep me in mind next you go please.

That would be great. I spent a few hours with a guy a few weeks ago training him on handguns. I was a small arms instructor in the Navy. He is about 65 and never shot a gun in his life. I think he was taught the ways of the liberal. Now he is like a kid in a candy store. Bought one of my hand guns in a 9mm and already bought himself a 45 at the gun show. The bug has a big bite!

Re: the bug, I've had guns all my life but mostly shotgun/22 type stuff. Got my first milsurp (not counting ARs) in 2008 and now I'm up to... many.

I'm an NRA-certified pistol instructor; havent' had time nor $ for the rifle course yet. Originally wanted to be SLED-certified to teach CWP but there's a glut of that right now.

Wish I had time/money for IPSC or even just competitive target shooting. Maybe when my daughter is older. Feel a little like I've missed the boat to start, though... I'm 42, and my eyesight and health ain't getting any better.

I'll see what I can come up with in terms of time. PM me what your weekly schedule is like.
