I know 45 ACP is the "True Grit" 1911 round and everyone and their brother offers a 9 MM. Is 40 S&W a good option in a 1911?

I have five 10 MMs, none are 1911, a EAA Witness Elite Match is all metal and closest and nicest. I think my XDM 10 5.25 is my best plastic 10 and I have a 4.5 version along with Glock 20 and 29.

No I am interested in a shorter grip that I think the 40 would afford, I was wondering about feeding issues.

Most .40 caliber 1911's will have a standard profile / depth grip,. Just like standard 9mm 1911's, the .40's have spacers in the magazines or folded front magazines.

The gun you are seeking is the Springfield EMP .40. it is a redesigned 1911 varient with a shortened grip.

Springfield produces the EMP in both .40 S&W and 9mm. The grip depth of the EMP's are 1/8" shorter

I had a custom 1911 in 40 S&W. The caliber in a 1911 is fine. This particular gun was very inaccurate due to poor barrel and bushing fit.

Recoil was not an issue and it was a bobtailed Commander.

I have a Springfield EMP4 in .40S&W that I rotate with my Kimber Super Carry-the Springfield I think shoots very nice-very accurate and lots of fun.

I've got the Sig Max Michel in .40 S&W. Great gun to shoot. Came with some good features, but the didn't make it very long. It's available only in 9mm and .45 now.

it is good enough for WC team member Mandy Bachmann to win with check out her gat:

They are out there. STI made one....USPSA was the model specifically for.....USPSA (go figure, LOL).

I have a Springfield Loaded Stainless in .40....accurate sucker. Had an issue with FTF's....polished up the ramp and it helped. Then for some reason (escapes me at the moment) I installed a Wilson bullet proof .45acp slide stop....all FTF's went away and haven't had an issue yet.

Alot of manufacturers got out of the .40 game. I called Nighthawk...they don't do .40's anymore, but are willing to fit a 10mm barrel to it for me! (hmmmm....still mulling that one over).

As mentioned....big with the USPSA Single Stack guys. That's what I got it for, and what I ran it in as I already reload .40 for USPSA Limited. But alas...I got a 2nd Dillon 550 and set it up for .45acp so that's what I run in Single Stack now.....

One could put a new barrel in a 10mm and with probably new springs and new mags one could shoot both calibers. Colt made some models in 40 S&W years ago but from what I understand they never sold well. They even made an Elite 10/40 with both barrels; now a collector.
