Started my 300 BLK bolt action build, here's a test fit in my Savage VLP varmint barrel channel stock. Actually replaced the SS action with a spare .223 action I had thats blued, will up the newer pics as assembled.

Was able to get it headpsaced and reassembled tonight - closes on Go, does not close on No-Go.

Savage Donor .223 Short Action
Savage VLP Laminate Stock
BFG 16.5" 1:8 Twist 300 BLK Barrel threaded 5/8" x 24 at the target crowned muzzle
SSS Trigger
SSS Ground Flat Recoil Lug

Optics selection will occur after a few test fires.

Thanks, had enough daylight this evening to step onto the back porch and try cycling a few rounds. Feeds well, and fires perfectly.

Seems my chamber is dead on, I had some out-of-spec rounds that I tried in a factory 300 Blk action that failed to load, and they failed to load(bolt won't close) in this action as well.

Savages have a little bit of ejector pin fine-tuning that I'll work on next, but as far as the action and the barrel are concerned, I think I'm leaving it alone, as-is.

Time to decide what scope to put on it next.... decisions, decisions... LOL

Looks sweet, I can't wait to check it out. I trust it'll make an appearance at ShootzenFest in a few weeks!

Clicker,

Actually I'll have 2 bolt builds.. I have another barrel arriving saturday that I ordered in May/June 2011. Of all the luck, after throwing the money down for this latest barrel, my smith called to tell me the barrel was on the lathe and wanted to confirm my specifications.

This one's going to be sweet once I get the extraction issues tuned out, and before year's end it will have a deer or hog or two to its credit. :-)

Its got a 5/8x24 threaded barrel if your Bowers can is rated for subsonic 300 Blk rounds.... OR if Henry shows up with a Liberty Mystic with my name on it.... I can get visitation rights... Paperwork went out a few weeks ago.. the wait is on.....

I'm on a 20+ day work streak so haven't been able to take you up on the casting session unless something gives.. if you need that sizer I'm sure I can get it to you, and try to help you prep.

Luckily the rifle builds are a late-evening task that takes just a little bit of time. Now I'm learning bolt disassembl/reassembly in order to prep my actions that were not originally 223-based originally. And to install the parts to improve the ejection.

Looking forward to seeing the folks there.

We can throw the Bowers on it plus HarperJT has a YHM 30 cal can in 5/8"x24 now. We shot it last weekend on my upper. We shot a few rds FA thru them also, pretty cool, just kept thinking how much it cost to do it tho!

I'd be happy to cast a few for you if we can meet up.

Clicker,

Thanks for the offer.

I'm sure I can meet up with you one evening with a Care Package. Aside from the sizer and the 247 grn mold, anything else you need for 300 Blk casting? I've got plenty of lead and 223 convert cases as well.

once things settle down over the next 2 weeks or so, I can probably drop in and get trained and do my fair share too :-)

I'd be a lot more fun shooting CHEAP(er) reloads...

Nope don't need nuttin' but the mold and sizer.

I've got plenty of lead, brass, primers and powder, assuming 1680 will work with the cast lead projectiles.

I PM'ed you my cell # a while back do you still have it? If so just gimme a call and we'll set up something.

From what I'm seeing on the 300 Blk site, 1680 is one of the preferred powders sub-sonic.

H110 or VV110 seem popular for supersonic.

The bolt action will be a lot less picky. when it comes to getting the gas right for the AR, and it appearss that the 1680 is good for cycling as well in the AR.

I'm sure I have that cell# I'll consolidate a "care package" and contact you about meeting you to drop some things off. :-)

SC.

damn

duh, damn

nice rifle.

whats lead going for?

ive got most of a 5 gal bucket of wheel weights and a good bit ,well, some soft lead pipe removed from plumbing. a few lbs of bullets from jackets. a scuba weight. a piece of an ingot. guess i should weigh it all.

ive got a 1000 maybe 1500 cast 44s,240 semi wadcutters i might bring to shootezenfest if anyone is interested.

Thanks Tigerstripe.

I just assembled Bolt Rifle #2 today after work, both bolt actions will be at Shootzenfest for anyone wanting to test one out. The real fun is when the supressor goes on and the subsonic ammo is brought out.

Just test fired the second bolt action, now just the same fit and finish issues, as well as optics, before the fun day!

I'm not up-to-date on the going rate for lead, since I haven't started up casting myself yet..

Just gimme a call when you have a chance. I have some W296 & VV N110 as well so don't worry about the powder.

I have a couple of rounds to test out in that baby. Just finished a couple of loads for production. 150 gr nosler ballistic tip.

I will bring to shooting fest.

P-1 Thanks Alot I look forward to checking them out.

I'll bring both bolt rifles (headspace gauges, disassembly tools, etc, just in case..) I'm still tweaking the ejection issue, but chambering and extraction run fine. I'm on my 20th day straight of work, so I've got a little tweaking left to do before next weekend.

My A/R upper is subs-specific for normal operation, but its still viable for a chamber check, etc.. along with all the other ones that I'm sure will show up :-)

Regards,

SC

Everything seems to be functioning well, just needs a few additional tweaks, and it'll be time to hunt!
