So with all this talk about 3-gun, it has really got me wanting to give it a try, so I would like to see the gear that you use to compete, and tell me what the benefits are for what yoou chose.

Thanks guys, Justin

Ok, well I will post the 3 guns that I have that could be used for 3-gun, but I am pretty sure that I would need at least a new shotgun

Everyone was shooting the 3 gun today, otherwise you would probably have some responses. Best to come out to a match and check out everyones rigs. Plus there are no shortage of loaners if you want to shoot. And yes, you need a different shotgun. :) (or at least a stock.)

I knew I would need a new Shotgun, but all thd ones that I s3e people using are $1200+ and I don't want to spend that much money on a gun that I would only use a few times during a possible competition

Any good semi-auto will get you into the game. But it is like anything else, you can get pretty specialized if you get into it.

Put an Eotech on the AR and get yourself an auto shotgun with a high cap magazine tube and you'll be fine for beginning 3 gun matches.

Just make sure you have a good sturdy belt and enough mags for the pistol & rifle, and shotshell carriers for the shotgun.

I'd take a picture for you but all of my elephant dung won't fit into the frame. :)

Well I really mean just the guns :). I want to see how far off I am from having a decent set-up. I saw that other thread that was talking about that CZ shotgun, and if it can be modifided by adding a extended mag tube, I am going to order one. After I get a better shotgun, I think I will be good to start shooting 3-gun. Also with the AR shooting, how far are the shots? Would a eotech be good for them, or would a scope be a better option?

Head over to USPSA and read the rule book. There are many different divisions, iron sights, no magnification scope, magnified scope. So it really depends on what division you want. And some shots can get a ways out there 100 yards +

http://www.uspsa.org/uspsa-rules.php <--- all the rules are there look towards the end in the appendices and they show the divisions

We're shooting Outlaw 3-gun at OKC gun club.
The divisions are limited, tactical & open.
Irons & non magnified dots are in limited.
Magnified optics are in tactical.
Dot & magnified combos are in open.
Speed loaded & higher than 9 capacity shotguns & pistols with dots also put you in open.

Both matches have had 300 yard shots.

I just did this one with an Eotech and I did fine, even though I didn't have it sighted in correctly.... that's my own fault though.

Like Chris said you just need a stock for that shotgun and you are ready to go. You will want different stuff later anyways at least once or twice so come shoot and see what else is out there.

Here are some photos of my 3 guns about a year ago. All 3 have changed significantly since then.

JP CTR-02
Benelli M2
Glock 34 & 35

I am almost embarrassed to show these as I have one or two of everything you could ever need or want. I am sure I will take some heat over these pics. :P

This is everything I haul to the matches.
20 Round mag,
3 - 30 Round Windowed Pmags,
3 - 40 Round C Products Mags,
48 Round pmag w/Nordic Components Ext.,
2 - 30 Round Windowed Pmags with Firebird Coupler,
2- 40 Round Coupled C Products Mags,
2 Vertical Bladetech DOH AR Mag Pouches,
1 Horizontal Bladetech AR Mag Pouches,
2 Choate Machine and Tool 6 Round Caddies,
6 Man Mountain Engineering 4 Round Caddies,
9 Glock 34/35 mags w/Dawson Ext.,
1 Bladetech Black Ice DOH Holster,
3 Bladetech Competition Mag Pouches,
1 Lula AR15 Mag Loader,
1 Lula Pistol Loader,
1 - CR Speed Belt,

I have a Harris Bi pod as well for shooting Open Division.

These two photos below show how I set up my belt when I run all 3 guns on a stage. When I don't have to run one or two of the guns I take the gear for that gun off and run the belt very similar to this but without the unused guns stuff.

Wormydog and JT, what are those forearms on those AR's? and what are the benefits of those over just a regular rail? I see them alot on "Competition" rifles, but I don't know what they are for.

Wormydong's is a Troy TRX Extreme. Jesse's is a VTAC.

The benefit is that they are lighter than a quad rail and you can put rail segments where you need them.

They are still heavy, however, compared to a carbon riber float tube. Jesse's got a 15" PRI handguard on his now, which is super light, and longer than the one above, allowing him to get is support hand closer to the muzzle and transition between targets with more control.

Weight. No reason for a rifle length full quad rail. This isn't how ATAS can I get - its 3 gun competition. No lasers, or lights, or bayonets, or anything is mounted to the forearm.
