3 gun nation question slugs and choke

Will light modified choke work OK for 3 gun and do OK with slugs? Shooting my first match that has Slugs. Also going to sign up to 3gn cause their having 2 classifiers. Using a versamax. And winchester bulk pack 1oz slugs 1600fps.

Yes they will work fine. Look also for some Low recoil slugs., they will save your shoulder. Before you go to the match check and see where the slugs are hitting at 25-100 yds.

OK thanks. What size of targets? 10-12" plates? Or what's normally the smallest they shoot with slugs?

Heck those 1600 fps slugs may ruin your gun! lol!! You definitely want to get a hit on the first shot. Because after taking one of those to the chin and shoulder you're sure to be anticipating recoil.

There is no defined slug target size. Hopefully they use a minimum of a C zone piece of steel.

Can't opine as to the 3GN stuff but you might want to consider reduced recoil slugs. Jesse is correct. A case of the flinches might show up after the first one of those punch you in the shoulder and chin.

I had to shoot some 1580's thru my heavy ass 31 round XRail gun last summer cause I lost my match ammo in shipping. I about quit rather than take that beating.

Try some low recoil Fiocchi Aero, Remington sluggers or Winchester Rangers

I just took mine out to see where I was hitting week before last. I recommend getting a big piece of cardboard and shooting at 25, 50, 75 and 100 yards, that way when you get out to 100 yards you should have a good idea if you're hitting to the right or left and be able to keep your shots on the cardboard.

When I had my SLP I was actually considering selling my stash of low recoil slugs and buck. But then I stumbled onto a hell of a deal for a Nova so I kept them for that gun. I was actually buying the Remington Slugger 1oz foster slugs that have "MAX" in the dram equiv slot for the SLP. Then I ran some of them through the new Vinci. Lets just say I'm glad it had the Comfortech Plus stock on it, because like No. 343 said, "it will rock your world". Damned if he wasn't right...

I tried the winchester value pack. 1600fps. They had slugger too,didn't get, wish in had tried.

From a bench my gun doesn't hit where I'm aiming. Should I take out the LM choke and try cylinder or improved cylinder? Or switch to different brand of slugs? I'm low and right at 25 yards and 50 yards. From a bench rest.

I presume your poa is the center of the cardboard. If so, your hits aren't that bad. I've shot some brands of slugs through the Vmax that wouldn't have been on the board at 50. But if you're using a front rest for the gun you should scrap that and hold the gun like you'll be shooting it for real, but support your elbow on the bench. You will likely come up with a much different poi. And you really need to try some different brands, weights of slugs in your gun. Just like a particular load/bullet can be in perfect tune with your rifle barrel, the same will happen with slugs. Case in point, I can shoot anything in my Vmax out to 40 yards and get a hit; Fiocchi low recoil 7/8 and 1oz out to 75 yards no problem; but if I want to get a hit at 100 yards I better have the Fiocchi 1oz low recoil in the gun.

Once you figure out the slugs that match your gun, then go practice shooting targets offhand. It's a little different than from the bench.

You can try the IC choke too. That may change things. Those two groups are as good as anything my shotgun shoots.

And if the poi is still off a little bit like it is currently, make a small mark at the start of your rib to align with your front sight to make up for the windage difference. I have an M2 that shoots about the same and a small vertical line in the incline of the rib gets me centered every time. (Well, the shot should be centered, but I have to do my part)

Thanks for the help. Makes me feel less worried. Just got a Lyman 525 grain slug mold. Going to try cast some and work up a load too. Maybe I can get it really dialed in. Thanks
