I have a leather Comp-Tec belt that I use for USPSA and IPDA. Will this work for 3 gun or do I need another belt? I also have a Otto chest Shell carrier. I'm thinking about a 4x4 shell holders but don't know what is best for someone new. Also being new I will buy used belts and stuff that work so let me know. I know this a lot but I'm really to go do this!

For 3-Gun I like a belt that is easy to take off, replace accessories, and put back on. Changing up mag pouches, holsters, and shell caddies as the stage demands has been much more rewarding than cramming everything I have on the belt and keeping it that way for the whole match. I started with a heavy leather belt and now use a Wilderness Tactical belt. Your leather belt sounds fine.

The Safariland ELS is a great rig that allows you to change mag pouches and take shell carriers off or add more without taking the belt off but they are pricey. By the time you buy all of the attachments you've got quite a bit invested in them. I use a wilderness belt and just take the shot shells out of the carriers between shooting so I'm not carrying so much weight while pasting and setting targets. Use what you've got until you are pretty sure you want to make a major change. When you go to matches look at what others are using and talk to them about why they like that set up or what they would change. I'm pretty much using the same set up that I started with just changed to a wilderness belt instead of an old leather belt.

The Safariland ELS rig is pretty hard to beat for 3gun, which requires many different setups throughout an entire match. Additionally it is very durable, but like mentioned above it is not cheap once you get all the add-ons.

If you are just starting out you might look at the Plus-2 or Quad Load methods for shotty's. they require much less time to learn when compared to strong hand/weak hand reloading out of the 4-pack caddies.

Since the new craze is the Plus-2 and Quad Load you may be able to find someone with some 4-packs that they are willing to get rid of at a good price.
