3. i am very ignorant about AR's keep it dumb
4. i want to have it ready by the match i do in Dec. so i am not in a hurry

I still haven't had time to start shooting competitions, but I can put together an AR in my sleep at this point. You know where to find me if you need help putting it together. Also, I have a Hiper-Form 15" Carbon-Fiber tube on the way. After I get it I will do a review. It was fairly inexpensive for that long of a CF hand-guard.

Lower-$80(LOKI)
Upper-$80-$100
LPK-$60(W/Ergo Grip)
ACE Skeleton-$70
JP Trigger-$115
JP Speed Hammer-$50
LMOS Buffer-$50(?)
Wolf Spring-$13
Carbon Fiber HG-$80-$300+
JP Gas Block-$70
Rifle Gas Tube-$13
Rifle Buffer Tube-$15
Rolling Thunder or Titan Brake-$100
JP or Young BCG w/bolt-$250
Rifle length barrel-LOKI has some good prices for us BoomerShooters!

Brad's post pretty much sums it up. Call Loki and have them put it together for you.

Come on Jesse, that's the best part! It only takes a little while to do and you learn how to fix it when something goes wrong with your(or someone elses) gun. Plus, Ben is local and we could knock that bad boy out in no time.

You'll want a 1X-4X scope. I built my own AR, and what I would do next time is:
-Get an 18" or 20" barrel with rifle-length gas ports.
-Rifle (not carbine) length buffer tube/recoil spring.
-A fixed stock that fits me- I forgot to set the LOP on a stage at High Plains and didn't know why I sucked on that particular one until the end.
-No more C-Products mags ever again.
-With iron sights, I'd do whatever it took to get maximum sight radius.
-A compensator is an amazing device.
-I THINK I would like to get a two stage trigger, but I'm not sure. My current stock trigger is too smooth at the wall to feel the sear engagement, and that sucks on the long range shots. Maybe just a really light trigger would be good, I don't know. You should shoot some other peoples' ARs, and so should I.
-Pencil barrels are starting to come back into popularity a bit, and I like the idea of those. A lighter gun is easier to push around.

@brad - i might take you up on that offer to help me build it, but i am warning you i am not a gunsmith
@jesse - suggestions on scope??? i love my ACOG. also that scope won't put me in open will it??

If you don't have a real strong dominant eye the TA-33 will be just fine. I still use a TA-11 aned I can hose at light speed with it and it is good for long away. If you have a very strong dominant eye you will probably gravitate twards a 1-4X...BUT IT ISN"T NECESSARY! I won two major matches last year with the good old fixed power TA-11...but I am accused of having Iguana Vision. Two stage AR triggers blow, get a nice light single stage like the J.P. or Gold Trigger. Go with a 20" barrel turned .750 all the way out. This ISN'T a pencil profile but it is nice and light! Carbon Fiber fore-ends get real hot so what ever you get, be it carbon or not make sure it is vented BUT NOT ON TOP!!! Fixed stock...darn right.

Now I know lots and lots of folks like the 18" barrels BUT the top 3-gunners outside of ONE, use 20" barrels....and yes I know them all.

Most any mag will work, and C mags are usually fine, but other issues can and will look like mag problems so don't be real quick to dump out the mags. I had one guy in a class bitching that ALL his mags were junk and it turned out he had the wrong recoil spring in the rifle, so really know before you junk them....and if you do let me have them. What is the advantage of a 20" barrel over the shorter ones.

What Chambers said and a longer Sight radius if you're gonna shoot irons.

The JP barrels are pretty tough to beat for accuracy. I am not a benchrest guy but I can shoot MOA out to 300. Chris Andersen is a group shooting SOB. I saw a 3 shot 1/2-3/4 MOA group he shot at 500 yards off a rest.
