My .260 Rem. Black Hole Weaponry barrel is suppose to be here Thur. I hope to have it at Shootzenfest for some try out. I feel like a kid at Christmas.

The barrel finally made it. I slipped it together and hung the WOTAC on it to see how it looked. That is one long darn barrel. :D
OK Henry, now we make a plan to try it out where we can stretch its legs. ;)
Still got to get a bipod for it.

So what is this cartridge for? I can't say I have heard of it before.

Nice looking AR and barrel :D

It is a cartridge that was in contention for the sniper round for US troops at one time. It makes holes in things at very great distances. It is in the .308 family of cartridges. I have an AR308 with an 18" barrel and wanted to build another upper in an interesting caliber that had long range (1000 yds) potential. Also because It seemed like a neat thing to work on at the time. Actually, looking at the 308 family of cartridges, I liked the 6.5mm/.264 bullet. It has low recoil and great ballistic potential. Emphasis on low recoil. I've had five eye surgeries and stay away from heavy recoil. However, I will not quit shooting until they pry my gun from my cold blind hands ;)
All of the chamberings below can be used with the AR308 lower. I don't know if the larger ones should be...I didn't research them. I did give serious thought to the 7mm-08 but came back to the .264 bullet as my choice of an alternative round. You do need to reload to afford to play with these oddball rounds.
.308 Family of cartridges:
243 Win.
260 Rem
270-308
7mm-08
308 Win
338 Nic
358Win.
375 Jag

P.S. @ Clicker: I put a Claymore Muzzle brake on it so maybe it won;t be so loud.
