.22 suppressor

I have never shot supressed so at the range yesterday I rented a walter p22 with a black rain ordinance .22 suppressor. I was told I had to buy the subsonic ammo versus standard velocity (no big deal). I asked why it "had" to have the subsonic and was informed that standard velocity would damage the suppressor. Would it really cause damage? Ifigured at the very worst is would just limit the effectiveness of the suppressor. On a side note I got some winchester 42 grain max subsonic which was really good shooting and quite. The P22 was a good feeling gun but the mag release was in a awkward position. I really want a .22 suppressor now

Ugh, Super Sonic, Std. Vel. or Sub Sonic .22 should not damage your suppressor. I've shot 10's of thousands of rounds of various types of .22 through my Huntertown Arms Guardian 22 and it's never had an issue. Also the BR Ord. is rated for .17HMR, .22MWR and .22LR.

If you're shopping for one I'd consider the HTA, it is super quiet and retails for 199.00

I've never heard or a suppressor that was only rated for sub sonic ammo, it must have made of card board or something, or possible the guy didn?t know what he was talking about. I have two 22 suppressors. My advice is to shoot as many as possible, and don't let price be you primary consideration since it has no or little resell value. The things I look for is sound, ease of cleaning, size and weight and rating.

Good luck, I sure my 22 suppressor more than any other suppressor.

what do you think of the difference between the baffle can VS the monilithic core? or what is the difference?

K Baffles are generally more quiet, cause less POI shift and exhibit much less first round pop. Although losing a baffle is not good and can happen. Much more labored cleaning, but a tunbler and/or

Monocore are simpler to clean and lighter, but I've had terrible POI shift and the FRP is much louder than a K Baffle.


Any design that keeps carbon and fouling from getting between the baffles/core and the tube will make life much simpler for anyone.

This is why a large percentage of "gun people" don't ever, ever go into gun stores. When the Signal-to-Noise ratio is that high it is ofttimes best to avoid all contact.

The instruction manual for my Innovative Arms Apex suppressor recommended against the use of Remington Subsonic .22 LR ammo. I contacted them and asked why; in summary they said they had found it to be dirty and inconsistent. I had already purchased some, so I took it to the range. Innovative was right!

I agree, no need to use only subsonic ammo.

If you buy a can and don't already have a pistol host, take a look at the GSG-1911. You will have to buy an adaptor but the barrel is already threaded.

I wouldn't recommend HTA cans right now just because their customer service has really gone down the tubes. A lot of dealers stopped stocking them because (unless it was about new business) calls and emails for service repairs go unheeded.

I shoot an Innovative Arms .22 can with monocore. POI shift was minimal and groups look like this at somewhere around 35 yards (unmarked outdoor range)

I shot about a hundred rounds out of a bulk pack of 500 Remington Subsonics then I read a couple threads online of baffle strikes/end cap hits using them so I quit shooting them through my can. And they are dirty!!!

If a .22 suppressor brand says don't use high velocity ammo, Run, don't walk, away from it

You'd have to be shooting some damn fast .22 ammo to be supersonic after three inches of barrel.

Granted HV ammo, while subsonic, has a different/louder tone than true subsonic ammo which is why I stick to CCI Standard or Subsonic or American Eagle 45gr Suppressor ammo which is copper washed and 975fps

Thanks for the replies going to look at an apex innovative arms .22lr tomorrow. I know what the web site says for retail if anyone is comfortable and wants to pm me what they payed I would appreciate that. Local shop has them on there sight with retail and visit for best price.

I paid whatever is listed on their site...$299 for an aluminum one directly from their shop in Elgin

I would recommend paying the extra hundred and getting the stainless version. Only slightly heavier but more durable, easier to clean, and you can shoot 5.7, .22 Mag, .17 HMR through it

The dealer in town that I planned to visit no longer sales to individuals (Allen Arms). They did refer me to who handles their individual sales now. After talking to the other shop (James Firearms) I have decided to go the trust route vs. the fourm 4. Thanks for the feedback everyone. Got a lawyer and working on the paperwork today. When I go to pay for the suppressor do I also need to have the check for BTAFE?

You still fill out a Form 4 (well the dealer should to make sure no errors) but rather than an individual registration it's to your trust.

You need the $200 check to the BATFE whenever you're (or the dealer is) mailing the paperwork in. The dealer may take the check and hold it when you buy the can but I wouldn't leave it with them unless I either knew them real good or if the paperwork was going out same day

Also, don't buy a can unless it's IN STOCK!!!! Form 3s from another dealer add a long time to the wait. It'd be better to drive to Elgin/Columbia and buy direct from Phillip at Innovative or from PSA than to wait on a Form 3 IMO, unless you have no ability to travel for whatever reason

Start stacking subsonic .22 right meow if you haven't already. American Eagle 45 gr suppressor .22 ammo is awesome...copper washed and real clean.

I get great results from that, CCI Standard Velocity or Subsonic.

Yeah about the ammo...I only have two .22's (10/22 and a s&w .22a) So I havent really been stocking like anticipated, kinda have a random stash. On the up side looks like more and more is becoming available in store. Most stuff I have is a federal bulk pack, this stuff ok? Also have a brick of blazer (any good?). Other than that some 50 round boxes of cci standard, remmington golden bullet, american eagle standard. Only subsonics I have are a 50 round box of remmington subsonic (sound like a no go) and 100 rounds of winchester 42 grain subsonic. I do have a few of the CCI mini mags will these be ok or better to save for unsuppressed?

While I play the waiting game any suggestions on a host. I did hear one for the 1911-gsg. Any and all feedback welcomed.

I was shooting a Marlin XT-22 bolt action.

If you shoot high velocity through a pistol odds are it'll stay subsonic but it'll have a sharper tone. If you shoot any of that through a rifle it'll still have the supersonic crack. Look at online retailers for CCI Standard and AE Suppressor. Getting easier to find

My only current host is a Ruger 22/45 with factory threaded barrel. I've demo'd my Ruger beside a GSG-1911, using the same can. The GSG was quieter.

Ruger is now offering its American Rimfire bolt rifle with a threaded barrel. I have my eye on that. No action noise with the bolt anti on rifle of course.
