FWIW, I was very disappointed in the Ultimate Cliploader.

Yes a loading tool is required for long range sessions
There are several out there. The ultimate clip loader has been recomended and not recomended.
I have one, and the only issue I've had is it sometimes won't load the last round, so I'll have to dip into the box for one. I think it might be an adjustment issue, but I haven't persued it.
Brownells has several models that run less than $10. I have a couple of those as well. Brownells part # is 100-004-406.
Its built by Crabtree Tool and Die, and is ambidexterous. Wilson Combat makes another, but I don't have the part # for that one. Its also less than $10.
No more sore thumb.

My .22 mag loading method (patent pend)
Hold mag with the loading button on the bottom (away from you)
Hold mag against the top edge of a table with the button under the top edge (45 degree angle works great)
Press mag slightly forward (so that loading button moves down the mag, along with the follower)
With no tension from the follower, you can now drop rounds gently and quickly into the mag and you wont get a sore thumb.

Oh my god. I feel slow. I'm not sure why using the edge of the table didn't pop into my head in the first place.

You don't get ideas like that until you're a semi-pro. Even then it will really only happen if you're wearing your skinny jeans and fingerless shooting glove while surfing the web.

I hold the mag straight up and use the underside of a table to hold the button while I press up on the mag.

When I was doing it by hand, I held the mag straight up and down and I found that the rounds would fall in straight up and down some of the time. It was annoying to get the to lay down at the required angle. I even tried angling the mag slightly and the rounds would still stand up. I had to it at nearly a 70 degree angle in order to prevent stand-ups. But, I could very well have been doing something incorrectly.

Just push down enough so there is room for only one bullet in the top of the mag. Repeat 10 times. That should eliminate the stand up problem.

Good thought. I can see where that would make a difference. Leaving too much room let's the round stand up.
