2011 Carry/nightstand gun

For just a nightstand gun, I like my 12 gauge. For carry, I like my Glock 26. If you want something in a .40, then look at the Glock 27's. The GEN4's have the adjustable back strap and you can put the extenders on to make them comfortable if you have big hands.

not to be Debby Downer here... but IF you did shoot somebody with a night stand gun.... that gun may be tied up in evidence for a while.

I'd just as soon have my $250 beater Rossi or something stolen from an evidence locker or put away dirty for months than a trick custom built gun....

The guy you shoot won't care bit about what kind of gun you brought anyway.

Get a police trade in Glock 22 imo. Or set up at 6" 10mm and handload some 200gr XTP's ontop of 10gr of 800X.

I use my M&P45 for my nightstand gun. With an extended 14 round mag stuffed plum full of 200 gr +P Cor-Bons.

But I like the idea of a 2011 10mm too. A 165 gr. XTP or gold dot at 1300 would sting a bit. Having 18 or 19 of them on tap is intriguing.

Sorry Tony, I've had too much training in making the conservative choice and feeling guilty about spending too much money to support that. Maybe one of these days I'll start buying lotto tickets and win forty million bucks, then I can start getting behind it.

Thanks to the guys who offered actual insight to this, as to being called out for being opulent, I hope you don't talk down to your students that way, it's really not appreciated by me or anyone else.

To Tony, Scott, Mike, and everyone else with input thank you. I was wondering where the line between game gun and practical tool was and I thought it overlapped with the 2011 platform, still do actually. What would you guys think with 20+ 9X23's on tap?

Even though Cywrus won't admit it an AI tuned 18.5" Benelli would be an awesome HD gun.

A 2011 does seem to cross the line between games and defense, but perception is not reality. If I were a much larger person I'd carry a 2011, but that view only comes after having owned one. Getting over the high price was not easy at all. I think 9x23 would extreme in a carry gun, but not at home. I was concerned when carrying a 9mm about having to shoot through car doors and windshields, but I'm carrying a .45ACP now and feel more confident that I won't be wasting bullets doing things like that.

I'm not so big on the super duper hi power ammo maaaaaybe 10mm, but I'm still on the fence.
Not too often I'll run into a situation where I'll need or even want that kind of penetration.
As far a the 2011 platform goes, you know where I'm at on that....hell yeah.
I've got enough rounds down my limited gun to prove to myself that the platform works & I can count on it if I need to.
I spend almost every weekend shooting my limited gun, why shouldn't I have a defense gun that's almost exactly like it.
As far as it sitting in an evidence room in the case of a defense shooting, who cares?
As long as it did it's job & functioned when I needed it to so I could defend my family, I'm ok with that.
Like you said, not too much different than the wilsons, nighthawks or even some colts & kimbers lots of folks carry.

G.T. a 9x23 would be just as awesome if not even better. A hot hand load out of a 5" or 6" barrel would likely beat .357 magnum performance out of a 4" revolver. And nobody questions their effectiveness. There are 124 gr. 9x23 factory loads that match it AND the .357 Sig, so I'd bet you could beat them by a bit with the right powder. If you port it, keep your Sordins right beside the gun...

Flame me if you want, but I bought a Taurus Judge way back when they were new, and was dissapointed in the performance of the available ammo.
I posted a lenghtly report with pics on another forum before BS existed.
New ammo has came out that is designed for this pistol.
i did another report that puts the Judge into the SD catagory.

The gun I shoot the most is my XDm 9mm at the few matches I go to, and my nightstand gun is a XDm .45 acp. I figured when I pick it up the feel will be natural and most comfortable for me. Plus shooting matches at Heartland in the dark stages gives me more confidence in low light situations as well. My thinking is like Tony's why shouldn't the nightstand gun be like the one I have the most time and rounds through.

No doubt ... If you're having to pull the gun off your nightstand you're already in trouble. Best to have something you know, can operate in the dark, and you know is going to go bang.
