What does the peanut gallery say? Talked with Tony a bit about his cool 45 defense oriented 2011. Was thinking about a 40 cal gun for nightstand/some carry that was real close to matching my limited gun. Only negative I could see would be the plastic grip but I've reduced my limited guns grip like crazy and abused it with reloads and 20+ round mags for years without problems. I could even chamber the thing for 10mm, oh the possibilities.

Thoughts, concerns?

I recently learned about 400 Cor-Bon, and you should probably get something in 400 Cor-Bon. Just get a 45 2011 and have a 400 CB barrel fit to it.

Mostly I want someone else to buy a gun chambered in it so that I can shoot it.

Seems like a very expensive night stand gun. I have two night stands so that's like $5-6k in guns.

not to be Debby Downer here... but IF you did shoot somebody with a night stand gun.... that gun may be tied up in evidence for a while.

I'd just as soon have my $250 beater Rossi or something stolen from an evidence locker or put away dirty for months than a trick custom built gun....

The guy you shoot won't care bit about what kind of gun you brought anyway.

Who says its gonna be a trick custom gun? Parts are barely more than a regular old 1911 and if the day actually comes where I have to use a carry gun in a defense scenario then it has done its job, I honestly can't say that I'm worried about what happens to it after that.

I had a short Mossberg stolen out of a gunshop a couple of years ago. The locals and the FEDs recovered nearly 100 guns from the caper.

Of course--- it took nearly 3 years for the folks (4 or 5 were charged with various crimes) to go through the whole process--- all the time my gun was in evidence.

I think it went home for deer season with a deputy... or rode in his trunk for a duty shotgun for a while- It was not the gun (unless rusty guns are an improvment) that I left on consignment.

Sorta expected it though- having spent a little time in evidence rooms earlier in life I can tell you- not the Ritz Carlton for your fine firearms.

That's a bummer I was hoping you put some A hole in his place with it.

I guess I'll consider my father in laws new Glock 34 that was stolen and recovered in Lawton to be a gonner then.

I got it back.... Glocks dont rust -do they?

The Mossberg was not a total loss. I had moved by the time it was released so I got the SO to release it to my son. He took the bones and turned it into a home defense / turkey gun.

I don't think you guys want to Krylon Camo a 2011 or Glock 34 LOL

I had a friend that lost a Ruger Blackhawk .22. Three years later, it showed up in a traffic stop in Nebraska.
Don't give up hope.

Back to the OP.
My recomendation, whatever caliber/gun you choose is to get it in stainless.
I oil everything religiously to keep the rust off of the stash guns. They are being replaced with stainless as the budget allows.
Yes, stainless will rust, but it takes a really rough enviroment.

You should do it. What happened to that pistol you were building some months back? Or is that going to become the gun in question?

I have a STI VIP in 40 for CCW and night stand gun aluminum frame SS slide love it . 2011 frame 120mm mags flush .........
If it ends up in a evidence locker , means it served it purpose and money well spent.....

Mitch.

I actually just fit the barrel tonight. Ill put up some pics in that old thread. This question arose as I looked around my bench and saw a standard 2011 frame, STI slide, and a nice new barrel. 16-17 rounds of 40 could be a heck of a good thing.

It's cool to just have all that stuff just laying around

Get a police trade in Glock 22 imo. Or set up at 6" 10mm and handload some 200gr XTP's ontop of 10gr of 800X.

build it with a caspian hi-cap. I like steel for a stay at home gun. something with a light rail maybe. It wont get shot or maintained like your weekly match gun. 15rds, flush fit magazine in 40.

Or are you afraid youll have to reload more than once on a standard 32rd bad guy? Ha.
