2 Monthly Carrygun Matches at Heartland?

I love the idea of 2 matches per month. I know that chances are I will miss at least on for work or lack of babysitter, so having a second one would give another chance to make it. As I see it, there will be the core group of individuals that will be at every match they can to compete. Then there will be the rest of us that just want to run the stages and improve ourselves that will come every chance we can, but can't or won't rearrange our whole lives around a match.

I have secured the second date!

I think I'll try this out in April.

It may be that we'll do the 2 a month when it's colder, then cut back to once a month when it's warmer and folks are off shooting matches. We'll see how it goes.

I think it should be carry gun only and limited to 30 shooters. There are plenty of other matches around to shoot the other guns. But then again, I'm an opinionated anti social, soon to be retired, postal guy. Doubt that I would shoot it twice per month except maybe in the winter. If you ain't having to unload it in the parking lot before you come in, it ain't no carry gun. And if you can see the gun or mags before the start signal, it's not concealed either.

Not all of us have carry permits (yet). Should we stay away? Not all of us, myself included, have experience shooting from concealed. Baby steps. Let the shooter get comfortable in these matches, then start concealed. I know I need a better holster for concealed carry. This match proved that.

I would come to both matches more often then not.

Very cool indeed. Since one of reasons for a second match is to control the number of shooters a little, just make both matches identical. That way you don't double your work load for planning stages. If someone wants to come to both matches that's fine or they can skip one and still not miss out on any of your stage creations.

Either way, thanks for your immense efforts for the match(es)

I want there to be a place where a guy or gal can go shoot their actual carry or defense gun. Thus far, there hasn't really been anywhere to do that and be competitive.

IDPA offers BUG stages, but last I checked, you can only shoot 5 rds max per stage. Big whoop.

Can you imagine shooting an IPSC 32 rd stage with a a 5-shot snubbie? Yeah, wake me when he's done shooting.

But HERE..........here you can shoot a snub or PM9 with a gamey laser and be competitive! Almost as a side benefit, you also improve your shooting and gun skills with your chosen carrygun.

I will never require concealment for the reasons previously stated.

I'm happy that people are discovering this match!

Gamey laser on a PM9? My snubby has one too and they do make it easier to shoot in a defensive environment, just watch the crimson trace ads. :). But if you look at the times, Shannon was 2 seconds faster overall match shooting the same type gun and load without laser. We normally finish close in most matches. Of course the scorer missed one her misses on the mover so I really beat her. I will take 15 th overall with a pocket sized gun and "gamey laser".

I like the idea of the same stages on both dates. If I shoot it twice it will let me see if I can beat my own time and score to see if I'm getting better.

I think they are the best small 9mm out there, easy to carry and 6+1 of 124 gr Gold Dot. Some guy made a holster I really like too. I heard he made it with some recycled plastic in an easy bake oven. :). Seriously it's the best one you've made for me yet. You do some good stuff no matter what Mikey Cyrwus says.

Two matches a month sounds great to me, count me in for most of them. This was my very first match a year ago and have progressed from a very nervous newbie with a goal of just being safe to at least being comfortable shooting in front of a lot of very talented people. To Davids credit I have gained enough confidence to advance from using a std holster with a 5" production gun to using a cover garment to actually using my concealed IWB holster with a shirt for cover and my 3" carry gun like I do in the "real world" Now I just have to worry about wearing out my "carry gun" maybe I need a second carry gun, hummmmmm.

I still don't believe that was your first match. You have progressed fast. Nice shooting!!!

Who else shot this as their first match?

Thoughts and comments about the match and your skill level, then to now, would be appreciated!

The November match was my first ever "organized shooting event" I don't know about my skill level but my confidence level as far as draw and shooting from concealment has gone up considerably because I had never been able to do that much at any local ranges. They don't like for you to shoot from a holster.

I've shot thousands of rounds at the range or in the pasture but none of that did anything for my ability to actually use a weapon. These matches have.

AND I might have a new way to conceal my J-Frame at the next match

The Concealment Challenge on 1-30-11 was my first pistol match. My favorite thing about the matches is the positional shooting and the movers.

This was my first indoor match in Edmond. I really enjoy the movement and moving targets. I wish we had more opportunities to shoot on the move at this match.

If the person wasn't asleep at the switch for your run at the Concealment Challenge, you would've had to back up as the target charged you!

I'll see what I can do to get some "shooting while moving" for you. JUST you, everyone else can shoot standing still...... B)

I still moved reareward. I will march in place if I have to.

I have a quick 18 rd stage that requires lateral movement while shooting. Maybe I'll make that target the swinger, so BOTH the target and shooter are moving.
