I have a 1968 production Colt AR15 SP1 up for sale, sn: 11,0XX. This rifle is in about 95% condition and comes with a Colt 4x20 scope (no scope caps), a Colt bipod and a 20rnd Colt magazine marked .223. This rifle has a 1-12" twist barrel with a 3 prong flash hider, smooth side bolt carrier, non-trapdoor buttstock and the early Edgewater buffer. Looking to sell so I can fund another project so unfortunately I am not interested in trades. Other photos are available via email to serious buyers. Price is now $1500. Prefer FTF in SC.

Not trying to clutter this up, but sweet rifle!

My cousin has one in the low 20s serial with an NFA registered DIAS. Don't see a lot of these anymore. Wonder if we'll see a bunch of em dug up if SHTF ;)

Good luck with the sale.

Thanks for the kind comments. I like this rifle due to some of the early features she also shoots pretty good too!

Question: I noticed the take down pin is slotted. Any difference between it and a newer AR pin as far as function goes?

The pivot pin on the SP1 is a larger pin with a screw in the end of it. To remove the pivot pin you remove the screw the pull the pin out. Colt designed it that way so military uppers couldn't be used on the SP1. You still run across the large hole uppers. They sell a offset bushing that works well. I have a few that I've used the bushing on.

I'd keep that rifle completely stock due to the age and everything. Wish I had more of a budget for collector guns I wouldn't use. My '81 Python is the only one in that category.

I was gonna say that!

Thanks for the kind words about this rifle. I have not shot it a lot and from the looks of it, neither have the previous owner(s).

The rifle is still for sale....$1700 BTW.

Sweet rifle and good price. There was one at the show this weekend no colt scope for 1800$

Thanks! I went Sunday and did not see that rifle. It could have been sold or I missed the table it was on.
