Condition-1 is the ONLY way to safely carry it.
Unfortunately, there are some people on other sites who have no business carrying a 1911 as they clearly don't understand the pistol, nor have they ever had any decent training with it. One characteristic of those people is their lack of understanding of Condition-1.

More training is not the same as very little training. Being trained in different systems is not the same as very little training.
However, training limited to one system is, at best, training limited to one system.

Thought I'd throw this in just for fun . I met a guy a while back with a very bad limp at my LGS . I'd heard about him through the other regulars at the shop . He then told us first hand how he got the limp . He was at a doctor appointment , and for what ever dumb reason decided to transition to condition 2 and shot himself .
This is what a lack of training , understanding of the 1911 platform , and total lack of common sense safety can bring about . Luckily he was in front of his doctor's office and they managed to save his leg . Believe it or not , he is not the only man I knew that did this . The other was a Army veteran , 82 Airborne . This one happened about 37 years ago . He was always at the gun shows wearing his beret selling cheap Deawoo rifles and bragging how his Llama was as good as a Colt . While reholstering it he managed to shoot himself , luckily no one else was injured . Moral to the stories , if you're carrying cond.1 learn the correct way and place to unload . Don't be stupid like these idiots . There is no good reason to set hammer down on a loaded chamber .

When we were finally able to carry a 1911 instead of a revolver at work 3 of us did so at our mandatory range day we all were cond #1 our range officer asked if we were loaded with hammer cocked with safety on ?
'yes sir I am" the other 2 also said the same we were told no, oddly the 3 of us were the only ones to shoot the course clean with zero points down all 3, he then said carry your way if you wish to. Just do not load a round on my range until given command to load, yes sir. But prior we were all given the command to load I mentioned, no comment back . He was an old die hard revolver fan.
