Hello everyone, I am pretty fired up to exchange knowledge, ideas and stories about the greatest handgun design ever. I currently own 21 1911's - all .45ACP (the way they are supposed to be .. :) lol). My interest in 1911's began as a small child when my grandfather told me about the pistol he carried in WWI in Europe, the Philippines and Vladivostok. The 1911 also served my father well during is time in Korea.

I bought my first one nearly 20 years ago and have accumulated 21. I carry a commander nearly every day and try to go to the range nearly every week.

Thanks for letting me be a part of the group - i am looking forward to it

Welcome. Love em in 45ACP as well. It is also the Vietnam tunnel rats best friend. My uncle was one of them. I carried one as a tanker in the Army as well. Glad to have you in the group.

Was the tunnel rats best friend the 45 1911 or the 6 shot 1917? We carried 1911s or snub nose 38s in our survival vests.

I was born and raised in Manila, Philippines. My grandfather was with the Philippine Scouts, KIA 12 Jan, 1942, Bataan. I have seen various models of 1911s in different conditions and configurations. When I was a kid, to me a .45 is a Colt. When I became a 1911 enthusiast upon emigrating to the U.S. I realized there could have been classic 1911s and 1911A1s by various manufacturers that have been used as working guns by military and police (not to mention the criminal/subversive elements) back home, with no concern for any collector value, other than the intended purpose as a sidearm. Imagine the Remingtons, Springfields, Singers and North American Arms' among the more common ones. I only have 14 1911s in various calibers, mostly .45s, but they are my favorite type of auto-loading pistols.

Welcome, JMB1963 to this site.
you'll find you're not that different from most that are here (all fans of the 1911)
I would encourage you to expand you collection by adding a few more calibers,
I waited over 20 yrs. to get a 1911 in 9mm, learning afterward, I'd waited too long.
Don't make the same mistake.. & 10mm is a nice add too, as well as others..
never shot a 1911 I didn't like.

Question. What holster works best for you with the 1911? I currently have a leather pancake style holster.
