12.7x41mm Mosin

So I was cleaning my guns one day and had some bullets, 7.62x54r & .500sw, sitting the table next to each other and I noticed a similarity.

They are the same size at the rim. So I tried the .500 in the Mosin bolt.

It fit! With no modification. So I grabbed a stripped 91/30 barreled action I had lying around but the big bullets wouldn't fit in the mag or through the bottom of the receiver. First I stretched out the walls of the mag.
And the bullets fit.

Next since I don't have a milling machine I used my dremel to open up the bottom of the receiver.

And it's able to feed .500 magnum. This is beginning of .500S&W Mosin or as like to call it 12.7x41mm.

Now I needed a barrel and I found one from Green Moutain Barrels for $100. So I ordered one and sent it to my buddy in NY that did the machining on my other custom Mosin. He threaded and chambered it for me once the reamer showed up.

Then cut a crown in the barrel for.

While he was waiting on the reamer and working on the barrel I decided to make my own Trigger out of solid brass. After much cutting and grinding here's what I came up with along with a brass bolt handle.

Here's the rest
As for the tree it will be strapped to I got a walnut stock off eBay.

To match the other brass I made a plate for the butt plate where I'll probably end up with a recoil pad.

Well back to what my gunsmith was doing. He mated the barrel to the receiver.

He also test fired it and sent me a video. Y'all should like this.

Now I just have to wait on him to send it back to me so I can do some blueing and fitting that big barrel into the stock.

I'll be updating this thread as I make more progress. I didn't want to start a thread until I was sure this thing wasn't going to blow up.

I've got a Vortex Strike red dot to put on it but I want to iron sights on it too. But it will be the red dot for now on a JMECK see through scope mount.

I see in the comments on the video that the stock cracked? That's unfortunate.

How bad is the crack?

It's not too bad but I can't find the piece that broke off. I thought I put in the case

Here's some pictures

Man what a great project, and to be realized. Awesome. Hope you figure out the stock issue.
