What's your most enjoyable to shoot?

My Garthwaite Para is hands down my favorite, there are so many things that are “just right” about this build, it’s like Jim built it to fit my hand ......Hard to explain but it just feels better than anything else I’ve owned. 14rd mags are much more fun at the range too.....

    Garthwaite Para P14-45

I'm not sure when Jim built this but I'm fairly certain it's been sitting in someone's safe for a long time, when I got it home I immediately field stripped it and there were signs of old dried up lube and the shock buff that was installed was brittle and hard as a rock, it also show hardly any...

    Garthwaite Para P14-45

I’ve been wanting to try a 1911 double stack or a 2011 for a while now and I really wanted to go with an all steel frame but for the most part the price/quality range was either low end or high end with not much in between, it seems there is a decent selection under $1,000 and a decent selection...

    loose slide to frame fit

Just an update.......... I was able to get the slide to frame fit tightened up and now it's smooth as glass :) it also fixed the dust cover that was hitting the spring plug tunnel on the left side, basically the front right frame rail was bent/angled in .009, now everything is within .002-.003...

    loose slide to frame fit

^^^^^^^^My thoughts exactly!!!!!! Here are the measurements Rear of slide .755 Front of slide .755 this was taken where the frame rails align with the slide while in battery. Rear frame .753 Front frame .743 In defense of both previous owners this pistol doesn't feel near as loose as it actual...

    loose slide to frame fit

Here is the ad, the P.O. Bought it from TRRK trading https://www.1911addicts.com/threads/worked-over-springfield-1911-a1-45acp.80181/#post-128897 I had a chance Friday to swing by jplprecision and have John Larson take a look at it and besides the slop in the frame the rest of the pistol looked...

    loose slide to frame fit

James @ jrj has been great, timely communication and can fit me in now but, I’m going to try John Larson @http://www.jplprecision.com/ John is local to me up here in the Seattle area and knows Tim Bacus from back in the 90’s when he lived here in Washington state....anyway John said he’d like to...

Thanks, Great video and a little ironic that there is a shock buff on that 1911 ;)

    loose slide to frame fit

Honest question as I’d really like to learn. Is there a certain clearance the flanged/head end of the guide rod should be away from the dust cover? I’ve read .007 is normal? I’m also trying to understand what’s going on right in that area when the slide is recoiling back, does the guide rod stay...

    loose slide to frame fit

I agree that all smiths do not fit the slide/frame as tightly as others but on this particular pistol I would consider this amount of play excessive. I did ask the seller "how's the slide to frame fit".......His response "Slide to frame fit is exceptional, no play whatsoever. Locks up like a...

    loose slide to frame fit

Definitely did not get a good deal, we’ll see if the previous owner steps up and does the right thing

    loose slide to frame fit

That is a lot of play for a pistol described as extremely well fit slide to frame with no play whatsoever, and doesn’t match the build sheet stating (slide to frame was fitted)

    try this one

Something seems off here. This is with the guide rod removed

I literally hit send on my last post when my FFL called to say come pick it up. Looks like this front strap is plenty thick @ 0.116

    loose slide to frame fit

Thanks for the reply Mike I just traded into this pistol and If this pistol turns out to be as nice of a build as the seller claimed then I’ll definitely want to spend the extra money to finish it exactly how I’d like it to look and feel, right now it’s been sitting at my FFL since last Thursday...

    loose slide to frame fit

I picked up this Springfield recently and didn't notice from the photos how square/blocky the shape of the front was, for me it's not horrible but it does feel odd and cosmetically it just doesn't look right. My question is, am I just out of luck here or would it be possible to re shape it to a...
