I believe most traffic violations, be they moving or parking, are considered civil violations and not criminal offenses. Only serious things like DUI, hit and run, feeling from the scene of a crime, etc. are criminal. Most people don't commit "crimes" on a daily basis.

As far as I'm aware, carrying in a bank isn't illegal in SC unless they have the appropriate signage. I bank with BB&T, and use their downtown Columbia location every so often. They do have a sign posted, but it doesn't meet the legal requirements. I don't disarm when I bank there.

What a great discussion this has been. So much passion, yet the debate has remained sane and respectful. Thanks especially to the Carsons and Enjay for the detail they provided explaining their particular views. It's been very insightful to read.

I was really bummed I had to miss the last shoot, so I'm really hoping to make it to the next. Weather wise, November has my vote as well.

My CCW instructor touched on this, and said the SC law is not very well defined. While you and I may read the law one way, that's not necessarily the way an attorney or judge would read it. My instructor said that short of a re-write of the law, what was really needed was a legal test case...

Wal-Mart was the first place I went, too. (No nachos, though.) I felt awkward at first, like everyone was looking at me and somehow knew I had a weapon on me. That was a year and a half ago, and now I feel naked if I leave the house without it. You get used to it pretty fast. :)
