    Best S&W J-frame Gunsmiths

If they still offer the service, I'd send it to S&W for their revolver work. They used to do a great job of slicking up the action and making it noticeably smoother.

    What 1911 brands to avoid?

I prefer forged over cast, so pistols made with cast frames are out for me. While I prefer forged over MIM, the technology has seemed to have improved to a degree that you rarely hear of problems with current production guns. Another thing that has a bearing on how likely I am to purchase is...

An interesting / unusual range day on Monday..

This is a great story of being able to spread valuable knowledge, expertise and insight to those who have not been as fortunate as many of us being able to enjoy the sport and discipline of shooting. Joe's efforts are commendable and time well spent in that it appeared to open a whole new world...

Making a CCO from Two Pistols

I first bought a Fusion Bantam, Officers' sized .45 and decided I needed a CCO. I then bought a Fusion Commander upper and put it on the Bantam lower, thereby making it a CCO. It shot great and did everything a CCO should do. Then I decided I needed a regular Commander model, and ordered a...

What EXACTLY is the “feed ramp” on a 1911? I THOUGHT I knew.

On a Government Model-sized 1911, the frame ramp angle is 31.5 degrees with a 1/32" gap between the edge of the barrel ramp and the ramped portion of the barrel. In a Commander-sized gun, it's 29 degrees. As has been said above, the angles are critical to ensure proper feeding, so it's best to...

    First timer in CA

I just saw a video with Ken Hackathorn and Bill Wilson in which Bill said that they make their Bullet-Proof Extractorswith a slight curvature in it before heat treatment. He said the metal will automatically try to return to it's normal state over time, so when they are milled straight they...

    Long-time follower/first time introduction

Although I've followed this forum for quite some time, I'venever really taken the time to become as active in it as I should be. I'm originally from the San Joaquin Valley in California; so not the liberal part of the State. We moved to Arizona about two years ago to become reacquainted with...

Less than $1000 out of the box with best trigger

I'll have to agree with those who said the Springfield Range Officer. Springfield has a new model, but the name escapes me at the moment. Might be the Ronin. Around $700-$800 if I remember correctly. I've had Colts, Kimber, Sigs and others. All I currently have are Springfields.

    appreciation

No one ever tried to force you to believe anything. If you will review boatdoc's original post, you'll find he never directed his comments at you as an individual. However, you, in your arrogant and condescending way, decided that you needed to be certain he understood that you don't believe...

    Hi, Everyone

Took me a little longer to escape the PRK. I retired in 2014 and got to Arizona in February or 2019.
