I made this garland a couple weeks ago, out of 7.62x54r cases that I saved from when I had a Nagant. It always bothered me that I used so many of them and that they aren't reusable. So one day I had this idea while at Banner.

I used about 300 or so cases from two shooting sessions. The cases were "headspaced" on the edge of the jaws of the machine vise on my table-top drill press. I loosened the table and floated it, using the point of the drill against the case to balance and center it for the taper, and then tightened it up. Then I moved the vise to center the drill on the top of the round. After some trial and error during prep, the holes all came out identically located. It's strung on steel wire cable.

Merry Christmas!

Wish I had a scanner. we were stationed on isolated duty on a mountain top in Korea maintaining a Microwave communations site. We had some old Korean war equipment for backup, that used tubes instead of transistors. We decorated our tree with painted tubes from those old radio's. It looked OK. I still have the pics, just need to find a scanner.

That is awesome, Dennis.

GI's will do anything to make it feel like christmas. I missed 6 years of Christmas with my kids while on deployments. We did have Christmas, but it wasn't on Dec 24-25.

use your cell phone to snap a pic of the pic. It's not great but good enough to post.

Shotgun hulls with the primer knocked out run and a Christmas light through.

I think the garland should had a pattern like 2 x54Rs to 1 30wcf or some such. Great idea for the cave but the family is in agreement about the house tree. Let your imagination go and design a new garland each year. Curious to see what you come up with.

Beer cans stacked in the shape of a tree.
