My home connection is down again, so I can't research this, but, my first read of the bill is totally horrifying to me.
What is worse is that Mcain is behind it.
After ten years of being a pow, enduring beatings, and hardships that we can't even imagine, he is wanting to take away the constitutional right we have as American citizens that prevent this from happening.
 
Have a friend that thinks this ( If it looks bad for the Obamanation in the coming election, I'm not at all certain that there won't be a "national emergency" that will be used as a reason to cancel the election and invoke martial law.) Hope not not but never can tell with the way things have been mismanaged in our gov.
 
Another part of this that bears consideration: How does one define a "Terrorist"?

DOJ already says that you are a suspected terrorist if you are missing fingers, have "weatherproof" ammo, or have more than 7 days' worth of food in your possession - at least according to Rand Paul's floor speech the other day.

I have not independently verified his claims.

It should be noted that an amendment was proposed to strike the section authorizing detainment of US citizens, and at least replace it with a request for a review of if such power would be Constitutional. It was defeated soundly, with the "conservative" Republican vote tally being 2 Ayes (Kirk and Paul) to 44 Nays to 1 Abstain (Murkowski). So be sure to let Coburn and Inhofe know that you don't appreciate their on-going support of shredding the United States Constitution. Overall vote was 37-61-2.


It's also worth noting that is an appropriations bill originating in the wrong chamber. Odds are the House will blue-slip it. Perhaps this is an attempt to gauge public response by the Senate? The House passed a companion bill with similar language back in May (not near as vague, but my reading says that it could still be interpreted in an extremely broad manner as the AUMF of 2001 has) that is still alive and able to be considered in the Senate. That bill passed 322-96-13, with the "conservatives" voting 227-6-6 for this bill that also includes provisions to allow the military to be paid directly by the private sector and explicitly gives special preference to certain contractors.
 
It passed the Senate today. This happens to be the bill that specifies the budget and expenditures of the DoD, and has been enacted each year for the last 48 years, and there's really no way it wouldn't have passed, since it funds DoD. 2012 is coming up fast, and I think it would have passed no matter what, because members of Congress have lobbyists to appease (Lockheed Martin receives 7% of the DoD budget, and they want your money right ON-TIME).

I don't see anywhere how it relates to firearms.
 
Hmmm...most of us would fit some "bad guy" profile and be subject to that bills draconian measures. My Dad told me years ago The Government could change things "overnight" ... boy was he right.
 
I think a big problem in the country today is that probably 80% of Americans are content to sit at home and watch football, or desperate house wives, or justin bieber. Its become unfashionable to have a political opinion, esspecially one that contradicts the main stream. Thats the beauty and the horror of the current administration, its so underhanded. The politics in this country have mutated from "for the people, by the people" into, "take from the people, for the good of the people, because they dont know whats good for them". WE have allowed the Government to access our rights and strip them away. In the declaration of independence our fore fathers said this. "When a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism,it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security.--Such has been the patient sufferance of these Colonies; and such is now the necessity which constrains them to alter their former Systems of Government."

When America has been usurped by liars and theives and the house of congress no longer holds our rights and interest in the highest regard, it is our RIGHT and our DUTY to cast off oppression and institute a system of government which better ensures our rights and freedoms are respected...

And that my friends, is exactly what the liberals in the house, senate and supreme court, call a terrorist...

I appreciate the compliment, I just pay attention really though...I care when most people just say, "I hate politics" or "I dont discuss politics". I guess the thing I keep hearing in my head is that old quote. "The only thing necessary for the success of evil in the world is for good men to do nothing", and I dont wanna wake up when Im 40 and realize I let it happen, I didnt fight back...but other than that we both had a great time as well. Lyndsay said she had a lot of fun, and Im sure she learned a lot as well. I know I did my first match. We will be back and next time Ill have my holster on. Look forward to shooting with you again.

For those less informed, there are 100 American Senators. It had full bipartisan support. One of the Senators from OK voted for it, James Inhofe, and when it was in the House representatives Tom Cole, James Lankford, John Sullivan, Dan Boren, and Frank Lucas (all five from our state) voted for it.
