Bayou bullets

Damn - my M&P barrel just must have been a slow one.....shows what a difference guns / barrels make and also shows why EVERYONE needs a chrono....
Told ya!
Awesome thanks Rusty! yea that pistol of yours hardly even moves and no flash on a dark stage at H&H LOL I better rethink starting at 4.5gr and drop back to 4.0gr and work up. Later,

Kirk, just go with WST. I read and read and read on Enos and from what I can determine N320 has a cult following, but it is a very good powder. Also WST is pretty much known to be just about identical in recoil impulse. I can tell you from experience that once you get your measure set, you can just load away. I ALWAYS check but I NEVER have to jack with my measure once dialed in. EVER! It smells good too. :D

Another interesting thing about WST is the color. It's light gray in color making it easy to see in the cases. I've shot through about 10lbs. of this powder with good results.

Well I didn't roll any ammo this evening damn phone wouldn't quit ringing! yea I know turn it off but it was the folks. Feegee is coming over tomorrow so I can corupt him with the Dillon and teach him a little about reloading so might be a good lesson how to work up loads. I hope to have some rolled and run through the chrony before this weekend, this is the first time I have tried anything to get right on the PF and something that just for the most part poofs the bullets out there. Using 4.4gr of WST @ 1.130 with both J&K and Bayou moly 180gr runs 940 FPS +/- out of my STI Edge. I wonder how much variation there is in WST lot to lot? Do have to admit the GF thinks I'm a little strange as I REALLY like the smell of burnt WST.

Wes

Isn't WST temperature sensitive?

This is my recipe for production .40 minor

180G .401 Bayou Bullet
3.0G Hodgdon Clays
1.135" OAL
135 PF out of a G22

Well got the loads all rolled up just need to find some time where I can get the chrony out. Sorry to all you that like the smell of WST it didn't do anything for me LOL but it is a slick gray color kinds like most of my hair is getting and it's super easy to see in the case. Wish me luck! Later,

Kirk

Well I went out Friday after work and got some results for the Bayou Bullets and WST, here's the goodies that went into the testing;

Brass range mixed mostly Winchester
Primers Federal Small Pistol
Powder WST
Bullet Bayou Bullets 180gr coated
COL 1.135"

First off just cause this is what happened with my pistols doesn't mean the same will be with yours so WORK UP THE LOAD! you blow something up it's your fault so be safe you are building controlled explosions after all.

G23 with factory barrel
4.0gr = 832fps = 149.9PF
4.2gr = 842fps = 151.6PF
4.4gr = 859fps = 154.6PF
4.6gr = 868fps = 156.4PF
4.8gr = 895fps = 161.2PF
5.0gr = 916fps = 165.0PF

G24 factory barrel
4.0gr = 878fps = 158.1PF
4.2gr = 886fps = 159.6PF
4.4gr = 883fps = 159.0PF
4.6gr = 915fps = 164.8PF
4.8gr = 951fps = 171.3PF
5.0gr = 956fps = 172.2PF

I got some odd results between 4.2 and 4.4 grains of powder with the G24 so probably test those again and funny how 4.8 to 5.0 grains of powder really accomplished not much in velocity not even 1 fps difference. So it looks like to meet PF I'll have to go with 4.7 grains of powder with the G24 and 5.0 grains with the G23 so to make life simple I'll just load 5.0gr in them both.

Found out that my CED chrony has a PF option that I just figured out Friday afternoon so no math on my part YEA! Thought I would post up my results just in case anyone else need some information on the Bayou Bullets for a 40 S&W load. Thanks for the help fella's I appreciate it. Later,

Kirk

I've only shoot plain lead thru my old 38/357 and the smoke was crazy! these still had a little smoke but not much at all, I'll be calling Donnie back here pretty soon for sure. I wasn't trying to shoot groups but just running the numbers and between my normal jacketed loads and the Bayou bullets there was a pretty good grouping out there. I like and the price is MUCH better then the jacketed bullets. Later,

Kirk

4.3 of WST gave me 168pf in my 2011
I had a max of around 50fps variance over a 10rnd string

I just heard back from him & he does not have 185grn .45 bullets
