I'm looking for a light weight 18" (or 17"?) rifle length gas barrel for competition, what do you guys use / recommend? Is it necessary to go stainless for better accuracy? I'd like to use chrome-lined for longevity if possible.

It will replace my current setup, a pinned 14.5" chrome-lined w/ carbine gas, which I feel just recoils too much for good shot splits.

Any thoughts/advice appreciated.

You gotta go stainless. Very few people wear out a SS barrel in their lifetime and when they do the accuracy only degrades to that oif a cheap chrome lined barrel.

I recommend a JP enterprises 18" light contour or medium contour. They shoot amazing. .5-1 MOA without match ammo from a bench from some of them. Easily under 1 MOA with match ammo from probe no support but the magazine.

So does this mean you have finally shot that blown up warranty job with the light 18" barrel?
If so, how did you like it?

I haven't shot it yet. I need another scope. But I do like the way it balances even with the longer 15" VTAc handguard

Before I buy anything, I am going to talk to Erik about making an 18" rifle length in 5.56/223. LOKI is definitely my go-to.

Thanks for all the feedback, that's exactly what I'm looking for.
